First thing Bethesda should fix in the next patch is...

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 3:38 pm

AI/Patchfinding-AI.

It's beyond ridiculous in its current state, and frankly an embarrassment to Bethesda's acclaimed name as a RPG game developing studio.

Just an 3 examples how dumb the AI really is:

1) I jump from a rock, maybe a 3-4 foot jump. What does my companion do? Runs a 40km marathon around the rock. WTF?
2) Apparently companions/npc's are afraid of water in Skyrim, most of the time they run huge distances to avoid water to be at your location. Swim across a lake? Forget it. A small stream? No can do.
3) Sprinting. The npcs/companions apparently lack the skill completely. The moment you start sprinting, is the moment you most likely lost your companion/npc.

What also needs to be fixed, in my opinion, is the companions shouldn't draw weapons as soon as I do. They should do it only if I either give them the attack command or if I'm attacked.

This seriously needs to be fixed.

Sadly, i agree. Sven is nice, but sometimes, i really, really want to shove my non-skilled fists up his groin.

There are three things that need fixing (in this order) for this game to be perfect.

1: Random crashes
2: Texture bugs
3: Glitchy AI

I would rather see 2 things fixed first, the texture bug on consoles and the mouse clicking on pc, those are in need of the most urgent attention, especially the menus on pc, most things can't be clicked and dual wielding can't be equipped properly, both right and left buttons seem to only equip the left hand most of the time, items get stuck in the right hand.

don't worry about the 360 texture prob it's coming. there was a blog post or something that confirmed it.

about the mouse clicking mentioned above me I don't have that prob. have you got the latest drivers installed or maybe you are on an odd resolution? i play at 1920 and can click whatever I want.

I have never been able to tolerate any companion for more time than absolutely required in any Beth game (TES/FO) because of this... it's always been this way. :ahhh:

Well we know the first thing Bethesda should do thanks to this new and informative information. I'm sure they will hop right on that and send you a check with thank you card for this new information. I'm looking forward to your "Second Thing Bethesda Should Fix In The Next Patch Is.." thread. Thanks and don't forget to rinse and repeat some more already known problems/issues. Keep up the good work bro! *applauds!*

They need to fix the 360 textures, they're not loading as intended at all. I feel so bad for the people who wont be able to get this fixed on 360. It's like playing a different game graphics wise.

Not all NPCs are afraid of water. For instance the Elk that roam about, as soon as you get near one, they bolt. I chased a few and all of them decided to go into the water and promptly got washed over a waterfall. Hilarious to watch. I've also seen a rabbit running into the water, never to be seen again o_O. Another time a Frostbite spider was on the other side of the river, attacking me with its projectile (how do I shot web) Anyway I managed to backtrack with the spider following me until we came to a shallow crossing, to which the spider crossed over to get my autograph.

Try installing the game then uninstalling the game, clear your cache on your HDD. Pop your game in, clear cache again for the hell of it, then play from disc. Been working good for me. Might help. Worked for me. If not then oh well play it anyway. It's still a hell of a game even with said issues.

The AI during fighting irks me - your chum should go and flank the bad guys and attack from the other side but they invariably get in your way so get blasted with your spells and swords!

4. Fix the horribly unbalanced combat/npc's. No Foresworn Briarheart should be harder to take down solo than a frost dragon. They often do way more dps and have powers that can often one or two shot you even while wearing epic gear. I know that the NPC's often get higher as you level up on ES games; but, often times it seems like they are WAY higher than you are, even with it set on easy they npc's seem to be either way too easy to kill or incredibally hard, they should meet somewhere right in the middle somewhere, not in one of the extremes.

Oh and something else I have noticed is that often I will have a dragon circling around me, it will even swoop down in the distance and kill other npc's and critters; but, it never actually attacks me it just flys circles in the air avoiding me, I know I'm pretty scary and all; but, come on? lol

None of that stuff is nearly as bad as the issue with hotkeys, favorites, and dual wielding the same item. It doesn;t work.... at all sometimes. I have to go into the damn menu to equip my second weapon.

I hate the AI. I can't use them at all since i'm sneaky archer. I shoot one guy from distance and companion decides to run there even if it has a bow. There has been couple of quests that has been really hard because of the companion. In one quest i had to take out 3 bosses and since my defence and close-range attacks aren't very good, i died like 25 times on that quest.

I honestly don't have any problems with glithes apart from alot of texture glitches on 360, mostly snow. Other than that it's a perfect game imo. Apart from being called a milk drinker by everyone :(

The screen cut off problem. Not everyone has a high definition TV, Bethesda. In fact, a lot of people don't. For us, the text is unreadable and the screen is cut off around the edges. I can't even see my freakin compass!
And the texture problems, obviously. It would really be nice to be able to install the game onto my hard drive without any glitches arising.

AI is overrated anyway compared to the power of the imagination. I don't pay attention to it. AI is usually generic in most games anyway. I just get into the world and lore not the technical side of things. It's like a playground inside a interactive book where i can do anything i want, giving you that sorta feeling like when you were young full of dreams and ambitions. All AI in games like this is good for is filler to get you from one point to another in the story/world/lore. The AI in Skyrim is just props for you to use your imagination and not the other way around. People read into the technical side of things too much. Beth will fix what they can but you can't deny the great things they have given us with Skyrim. I wish i seen more praise threads then all this nitpicking jargon. Just use your imagination and role play a bit. So Lydia fell through the game world making her disappear. Well so be it. Maybe by chance she fell into a black hole, gates of Oblivion reopened and swallowed her or one of those Tremors got her from the 1990 blockbuster hit staring Kevin Bacon. Hell I don't know just play things out and have a good time and maybe even laugh at the quirks you all find. To each their own though. Peace Fellas!
