Fix for LOD pop-in yet?

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 6:34 pm

Basically, I want a way to get rid of the way extra details and decals "pop" in as you move closer to them. One example is moss/vines on castle walls. You don't see them at all 50 yards out, but when you get closer they just pop-in from nowhere. There are many other examples but this is one you can easily try yourself.

I've been manually going through my ini changing one variable at a time to try and fix this to no avail. Anyone managed to find a way to get rid of this?

some screens to show what i mean:

look at the stone wall in the middle of the screen, it's blank/colorless

there's moss/shadowing all over the stone. I've tried adjusting settings for hours and nothing works. I know someone out there is smart enough to have already figured this one out. Thanks.

I don't entirely recommend it, but there are ini edits that will load grids further out.

Add uGridsToLoad=9 to the Skyrim.ini, under uExterior Cell Buffer=36, and change uExterior Cell Buffer to 72. There should be an interior command as well, but I haven't heard it mentioned.

If you ever want to revert these settings, you will need to remain ingame and edit the config, then type in the console "refini".(Without quotes.)

This may cause crashing, though many think it's harmless to try.
