I fixed my lag....

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 2:58 pm

I had a bit of lag and this fixes it......check off all the save functions.... this has worked for me.... I just played for a little while and it was as smooth as uncharted 3..... my last save is 6423 kb and for some reason it keeps increasing throughout gameplay.... i find this strange......

I also have kept my inventory at a minimum....getting rid of all of the things I knew I wouldnt need or use in the future

The inventory trick is something I've been doing since Fallout. Sometimes after a good clean-out you will see the gamesave size drop by a few hundred Kb.

Works for me also, from day one i turned off all auto saves, i always turn off auto saves in any game as they slow things down. I too keep my inventory tidy and sell stuff i dont use. I have only had lag with dragon fights etc. The save file getting larger makes no sence to me. For me the biggest thing has been the look of the game compared to 360. Anyway they will put out a patch soon im sure with all this pressure. People keep harping on about fallout but this game is a big player sales wise so they will sort it and soon

This is horrible, I turned all my autosave functions, cleaned inventory, and after 15-30minutes again this SLIDE SHOW of a game begins. Bethesda you proved once more how much you guys are incompetent, you can make great game but cannot optimize it enough, especially for PS3. This is so lame, who tests your games? If anybody does, FIRE THEM, because this is unplayable. Fix your broken game and let us enjoy it!

I'm on 12mb save size btw. :nono:

@Dan,catuk, wait till you get on 10+ save file size. :brokencomputer: I'm hoping you'll be singing the same song although i highly doubt it.

If you guys are having trouble with the frame rate or issues where the frame rate stops completely this may be because of the launch patch download and installing before the game data installs of the disc try deleting the patch and your game data and when going into Skyrim when prompted to download and install patch decline/cancel and install the game per usual then after game data installs download and install the patch upon launch of my save file I immediately noticed that game was smoother was less drop in frame rate and it stayed at a consistent rate.

@Catuk, the file size getting larger isn't such a mystery, the more of the game world you explore the more data is stored in your character profile so it increases. Of course clearing and keeping a tidy inventory helps and not stuffing your houses full of junk like a demented Magpie.

But imo we should be allowed to do that without penalty so hopefully a patch will help, removing corpses would be nice as I tripped over the first bandit I killed on day one last night.

It seems lag may have to do with overheating. Those in cooler climates like UK, Sweden etc will not have probelms it looks like.

Overheating? My PS3's fans don't even kick into an audible state while running Skyrim...

Your not mean too hear the fans anyway :whistling:

But it would explain why most people who have lag problems are from the other side of the atlantic. Here in the UK< I know many people who have the game, not one has any problems.

No, I'm not... but games that actually require the fans to be in higher gears do push them to higher gears. Skyrim is definitely not putting too much of a strain on my PS3's fans and therefore it cannot be overheating. My PS3 is quiet when playing Skyrim and I've played games that actually put some heat on my PS3. Skyrim is not one of them.

"Cooler climates" prevents overheating? Really? What, do you use your PS3 outside? Go troll somewhere else.

guys please read my post, in the will you ever buy a bethesda game at launch again thread. it is my belief that it has to do with overheating. noticing that your fan is running at a usual pace does mean it is not overheating. you probably wouldn't even notice if it is running harder than usual unless you touch the ps3 or pay attention to the temperature of the air coming out of the ps3. test it for yourself. check the temperature of the air say 5mins into playing the game, then test it after an hour. you will see what i mean.
cooler climates will help with overheating issues, trust me xD. much more important though is making sure your ps3 has good ventilation. mine does, but my room does not and has no air conditioning lol.

I am fairly certain that my low fps is due to a combination of overheating (after 4+ hours of gameplay) and the mega gamesave size. I am up to 7.2MB now, and I can still go several hours before it becomes a slideshow. I have my auto save turned off, and tonight I will do everything recommended in the "Stop. Go." thread. I'm hoping this will last until the second patch is released, at which point I will likely start with a new fresh character I have been itching to play as.

Meur my save is 12,6mb and I get huge frame drops just after 5-10 minutes of play so i doubt it is because of overheating. This is really lame :shakehead:
