Flashlight in Hell? Blasphemy! Only a real man (or woman) would go through Hell without it! :)

Lol, I think this is funny :P
But yeah, you don't need a flashlight in hell... I mean, it's a place to test your manhood or whatnot, lol

When the source code gets released, you could fix it yourself :).

No, it's not solved. There shouldn't be a choice in the first place.
And all because of the stupid armor-mounted flashlight mechanic. You know, I remember writing pretty convincing excuses as to why the UAC troops on Mars don't have the flashlights on their weaponry.

That just makes no sense - why would you say there should not be a choice just because it may not work with your play style doesn't mean it should be forced on every other player in a single player game. As others said put your own limitations on your game and let others do the same for themselves - there is no reason the devs should place limitations just because you feel they do not belong there especially in cases like this where there is a simple solution - JUST DON'T PRESS THE BUTTON TO TURN IT ON !

The flashlight wasn't there in the original game. It wasn't in the level. It made said level more unique. So yeah, it should be forced on anyone, because having flashlight in the level makes it less memorable. It's not about lighting things with flashlight, it's about having the ability to do so.

This is what...the second thread in a few days complaining about the flashlight , I'm not demeaning what you guys are asking for...well I kinda am, but I wonder why you guys think the flashlight is such a important element to complain over. My thinking is, is Doom 3 really doesn't have many new mechanics to it over a standard FPS so I wonder if thats why you guys are so attached to that flashlight.

I mustn't be feeling well, but Richard Teph is right again. The changed flashlight mechanic in the other maps is a matter of personal opinion (I don't like it, others do, we'll agree to disagree) but the whole point of the Hell map is that you arrive with no gear and no armour, and you need to do some serious exploring to pick up stuff. Having the flashlight destroys a lot of that.

You know, one comparison video got a pretty catchy name for what the original flashlight mechanic was - "shadow management". In original Doom 3 there were several ways to know where the enemies are. You could just focus on the hearing, if you have a good sound system. You could run to the closest well-lit place. You could get risky and let the enemy make the first move - like let an imp throw a fireball, let a zombie get near enough you can see its red eyes, et cetera. Or you could get even riskier and sacrifice your ability to shoot for ability to see. Doom 3 BFG throws it out of the window since you can just use your flashlight all the time. That's why we are so pro-flashlight.

I don't like the fact that these changes were made to make the game easier.....you know what's what SKILL LEVELS are for! Not this extra-ammo, armor-flashlight, brighter-levels hand holding crap!

If newcomers to the game (or game series) want it easy, they should play the Recruit difficulty. Monsters do 30% less damage to you.

They should add a "game+" mode after beating the game that turns off the flashlight completely. Some of the shock effects (lights out, door opens, room filled with baddies) that the original Dooms had, just don't work with a flashlight.

I noticed that there are areas in the BFG release where there are more enemies (at the same time and respawning after another) than in the pc original.
The additional ammo makes some sense when taking this into account.
Looks like they tried to make Doom3 a little more like the old Dooms gameplaywise.
As for the brightness: Turn down the settings to minimum and it looks the same as in 2004.

I never used the flash light in the original game, I just upped the brightness :/. Monster placement atleast for me gets predictable after awhile maybe that's why I didn't use it.

That works well on a PC keyboard. On a tight console gamepad you accidentally hit that flashlight button quite often...

No it's not, read the freaking posts or don't post the same wrong stuff you've been already told is wrong.
