Flintlock guns.

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 4:55 pm

Greetings mod community.

I know the game is only out now for only a few hours, but is there anything known on being able to mod in guns aswell?

I personnaly would love to see something like a black powder cannon, and maybe a bunch of muzzle loading flintlock guns.

Doubtful, and not really at all lore-friendly. If it's possible it will happen, but we have NO idea what will be possible just yet.

Bleh gunpowder is such dirty thing, steam is better we can create Dwemer like staff thats uses soulgems as power source similar to how Heart was used, boil water and shoot dwemer darts, such steam gun can be prototype weapon for http://tes3series.narod.ru/tes3/pic/anim/trbnl/centurion_projectile.jpg what player can scavenge or even craft if will have some Dwemer Blueprints and skilled both in Smithing and Enchanting.

I'd beg to differ.

Skyrim is 200 years ahead of Oblivion. I find it hard to believe that Tamriel exists in total technological stasis. Even Guild Wars 2 recognises that the march of technology moves on and reflects that in it's themes and designs.

It's a pity these forums don't have a "Dislike" button.

Actually gunpowder is known, the Redguards are known to have used cannons as siege weapons, but their culture never was dominated by the elves.
Gunpowder also has obvious disadvantages to magic, so there isn't much research done in this direction.

The main advantage of guns in real-life was that they had even more power than a crossbow and could be used at any angle. That an arquebus could explode right in the midst of your troups was a major issue, though, so bows, crossbows and guns co-existed for centuries. Cannons and bombs rather quickly replaced catapults and trebuchets, though, they were just as effective, but they also served as terror-weapon with all the noise and sulfuric smoke.

Cannons didn't have the ability to fling diseased bodies into a besieged city, but that wasn't really a big loss for mankind.

A single man that can hide within a large group and cast fire and lightning down on the enemy has many advantages over a big cannon, though, so there isn't much incentive to make guns more mobile.

Well, your average grunt infantryman doesn't have particularly good magic skills and tend to use bows as ranged weapons and is the reason battlemages are so valuable. By that reasoning if you can supply your line infantry with something a bit stronger than a crossbow or longbow, you've made a net improvement to your force.

Just because it is 200 years ahead of Oblivion doesn't mean that it has come. And, as has been mentioned above, we have Magic.

I believe that implementing guns into the game wouldn't be too difficult once you have the models/textures/ect... The way characters holds the gun, reloads, ect, would probably be the hardest part after that. You could simply make it act like a bow, but with special ammo, and increase the velocity of the ammo. You could probably even add a sound effect when fired.

Yes it's understood that this doesn't follow the lore, but not all mods are meant to. I think I'd love the idea of having a flintlock pistol, if just for the silliness in it all. I wouldn't make a serious character or anything for it, but I still think that'd be fun. :)

Of course, since we don't have the creation kit yet, all of this is speculation. I'd just like to note that there's no point in arguing about whether a mod is lore-friendly or not, if it's not supposed to be in the first place. ^^

Plus, on the debate on whether it is lore-friendly or not... It's doubtful that we could possibly know if it is. It certainly isn't CANNON, but whether it's lore-friendly or not can be debated forever, as we can't know EVERYTHING that goes on in Tamriel. ^^;

From what I have read about modding Morrowind, Oblivion Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas it is rather hard (or impossible?) to add new animations, which would be needed for guns.

I agree, plus the Dwemer were advanced technolgically, no reason why technology of their for example couldn't have been found over the 200 years that brought such items to Tamriel and could then be written into the lore in a logical way. Having now played devils advocate I have one thing to say...

....PLEASE NO GUNS

Guys - this is the mod forum. If someone wants guns, let him have guns. They're not in the main game and not bothering the rest of us.

Was only a mod suggestion, as for ending up like fable, doubt it, elderscrolls has always been alot more on the "semi-realistic" side of things, unlike fable.

And again, it was a MOD suggestion not something to be put into the game official.

Like any fantasy setting with magic and steampunk tech, I like the idea of guns IF:

1) They can look cool. If it looks like a broom firing a bullet don't bother.

2) It can be made to not unbalance anything. I like the idea of something that fires once or twice then takes forever to reload.

I'm all for it. I wouldn't mind having a flintlock or something like a mini-staff for my battle mage. Frankly destruction kind of svcks right now, so as it stands, a gun might actually be better...

What an interesting transition from "Sword and Board" Elder Scrolls, to "Run and Gun" Fallout......

Flintlocks are developed in the Elder Scrolls world, and technology advances to where they have a nuclear war, and that explains
why Fallout is an Alternative 1950's setting devastated by a Nuclear War, because the world of Fallout was once Tamriel, or whatever the world is called,
I don't follow lore.

At least don't give it to player so easily. (I love deep, fun fun quests!) Even if it's lore-breaking, modder should find some excuse to fit it in. For all technological [censored], you always have Dwemer.

That said, I might prefer something like rail-gun powered by compressed steam powered by dwemer technology with soul gem as primary power source, and the player might need to assemble it themselves. Again it not might be very lore-breaking, as it looks like Dwemer Spheres have some kind of "powered crossbow" on their left arm.

If I was going to do this I would first look into modifying a staff.

I'd be ok with a basic flintlock pistol. Give it a lengthy reload time though, and let my enchant different sets of ammunition.
