Floating Quest Giver Marker Toggle

Post » Fri Nov 15, 2013 6:59 pm

In every video I've watched the quest givers have a sort of "exclamation mark" (or a stylish arrow, though I can imagine it's the same thing) and I wonder, have there been words on whether you can disable them or not? I don't like to know from the look of NPCs whether they have quests for me or not, I'd much rather talk to everyone and discover quests naturally. And do you want the option to toggle it?

Off the top of my head I can't think of any MMO's I have played that didn't have that as an option post WoW release.....certainly hope it would be an option.

I don't know what videos you've been watching. Quest givers in ESO are indicated by a glow about their person, which can be either reduced or turned off entirely. So you're good.

Well WoW totally screw the MMORPG world with introducing the "!" above all quest givers to indicate where all the quests was. I preferred the old school system where you actually had to interact with the NPC before you could know if he had a quest available for you. Way? Because it totally broke immersion and reduced the fun of exploring the game. How fun would it be if Skyrim had "!" abouve every NPC quest a quest?

IMO best way to indicate if a NPC have a quest have something interesting to talk to you about is to make them behave like they do in Skyrim....

Not everyone cares about immersion, or at least does not care that much (Called suspension of disbelief). Most people do not like running around like headless chickens trying to find out what to do. Also WOW did not introduce them, it was Everquest (which WOW ripped off)

He's quite right, Evercrack had them first. WoW had them toggleable though. You could turn them off. It has been wayyyy too long, I can't remember if you could toggle them off in EQ.

I could be remembering wrong but I thought Skyrim did have markers on quest givers. The "V" shape with a little diamond on top.

Well 90% of the dev team that developed WoW had worked with EQ before so it was not that odd that the two was allot alike. However I can't remember EQ having any "!" that had to been introduced later after I quit playing.

That was only to quest objectives. Instead they made it REALLY obvious to tell they had a quest by making them say something or do something that usually made it obvious they had a quest.

No not without any mods at least. The way a NPC indicated that he had some quest was to either approach you, hints given by others or by visual queues.
