FNV Acheivment- Star Wars: Battlefront 2 ref!

Post » Wed Dec 15, 2010 9:51 am

I found a Star Wars Battlefront 2 reference in the acheivments list for FNV. The acheivment "For the Republic" is undoubtedly a reference to when a Republic Clone shouts "FOR THE REPUBLIC!"

I thought that was pretty neat.

Or it's a reference to some movie about rome where someone shouts "For the Republic!" Said in Gladiator for sure by one of the senators or such.
-after all there is a faction called caesars legion

Or it could be referring to a fallout-america tale in the fallout lore.

Or it could be referring to Stars Wars but I highly doubt it.

You're probably right, but couldn't it just be a Star Wars reference? And also, the Chinese dudes in Command and Conquer: Generals shout "FOR THE REPUBLIC!" sometimes, but they're referring to the People's Republic, of course.
So how come it's not a CNC reference huh?

or maybe he is yelling for the republic because the achievement is for helping the New California Republic

thats the most logical explanation

No kidding, huh? I never would have guessed. Look, the fact that it's referring to the NCR is obvious, but Achievements often have puns and double meanings.
For example, the companion achievement, "Render Unto Caesar" obviously refers to Caesar's Legion, but it's also a biblical reference to the passage Matthew 22:21- "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and unto God What is God's."

I'd consider those two missions to be the turning points in the game. I'm willing to bet that those are the missions where the game forces you to choose a side, and at the very least makes it very difficult to have good or neutral relations with the other side at that time.
If one of the achievement names is a reference to the Bible, why couldn't the other one reference Star Wars, which is arguably of equal cultural importance to some people, especially considering that "Jedi" is an officially recognized religion in some countries?

Was not offended, I just like people to look into the deeper meanings of things.

Alright, I admit it, it may not even be a star wars reference, but I think that it is a reference to SOMETHING. I think we can all agree on that, right?

It definitely has summat to do with the NCR. I agree that these quests are where you've gotta choose sides.

"I demand a new SWBF... now!"

Me too. Me too. But until LucasArts lifts up their lazy asses from the couch and stops making terrible Clone Wars crap, there won't be one.

Starwars battlefront 2 was in fact the best third person space based light sword super mecha vehicular awkward running and campaign style game I've ever played.

It was basically a third person Battlefield game. Star Wars Battle front and Mercenaries 1 were two of my favorite non RPG Xbox games. While I never played the apparently the hand held Battlefronts are awesome/ superior to the console ones.
