I have read many things about followers and weather or not they have unlimited arrows.


I have noticed followers only use a non default bow if they use there own arrows that are not in the inventory.

How ever if you give them say 1 elven arrow they will refer back to the hunting bow.

I was wondering what would be better the better bow or the better arrow......

I would say arrow only because they are infinite, so make dragonbone arrows and you're set. But for me my wife is using her dragonbone arrows and her custom dragonbone bow.

You're basically right on track. The arrows in their inventory are limitless in supply. I would just go with a better bow, they seem to use it more often than better arrows.

Arrows have little impact on the total damage of a bow. I give them one arrow of better than stock quality and let them use that. The best thing to do is to give a follower one of the arrows you like, then you can harvest them from the NPCs they kill for you.

I've given up on giving them a better bow... there's no point as arrows eventually stick into them and go into their inventory.

Unless I want to keep clearing out arrows from their inventory ever 5 minutes, it's just not worth bothering. Now I just put heavy armor/shields on them and go stab the enemies in the back during an arrowfight. Much faster and less annoying...

Dragonbone Arrows/Bows are only in Dawnguard... if he had dawnguard, have him use a crossbow instead, then he can use the arrows AND a full-powered bow.

The only problem with crossbows is you have to keep replenishing their bolts. When they have bolts they aren't infinite.

Hehe - sorry, I'm a PS3 user, and have only been told certain details about DG when I posted on the forums wondering why on earth my follower refused to use my crafted bow I gave them. I didn't know that caveat about the crossbows.

Incidentally, what about the follower's exclusive Dwarven Centurion Arrows? Surely those can't be limited as they're designed not to be as you can only pick up one...

Then I'm not sure, but the different kinds of bolts you can give them will eventually run out if you aren't replenishing them. -Edit- That's why I have them use bows since the arrows are infinite....most of the time.
