Maxed 2hander (Sword), Smithing, Enchanting, Heavy Armor.
An utterly over the top killing machine, dropping most things in 4 power attacks, excepting the Ancient Dragons, whom I just had to hang way back and arrow down, till I could get a shout stun in and tear whats left of their life away.
Moved to a Destruction mage and then accidently power leveled through pickpocketing and training alchemy to 25 or so, destruction was at 20.. could not kill anything.
Tried again with a Archer, gently leveled in dungeons and chasing quests, took followers who trained Marksmanship, wore light armor.
And this is where I find something sticking in my craw, over 150 hours playing (overall). I have been using the console to 'disable' and 'enable' followers as I level.
My Marksman ship is at 80, I have all perks in the tree mins the slow time one as I found it more painful than useful.
The Follower.
Vilkas will do many things, when he is actually doing useful stuff, he will run up to something and destroy it, faster than I can with all sneak crits. But more often than not, he will:
1) Use his bow, while they beat on me.
2) Stay crouched or after running to them, run crouched back to me.
3) do nothing.
4) if ordered to attack, he will a) run to them uncrouched and pull everything. B) pull out his bow and attack.
The Bow.
Random dodging = miss.
Vilkas in the way = miss. (sneak crit though on Vilkas)
Using a improved Elven bow and steel arrows npc's fall into 3 catagories. 1)instant kill on sneak, 2) 1/3rd overall heath pool on sneal crit, 3) 1/12th of overall heath pool on sneak crit...
A specific example
A Forsworn mine, cleared to the end. Last NPC is a caster, that summons a Frost Atronach, 2shots me with Icespike, 1 shot with Ice Storm.
Now I'm not against a challenge. But the real derisive issue is the follower, as an Archer I sorta need someone to tie up the NPC's in melee, so I can clear off some shots. I have gotten used to pumping 20 arrows into something just to have it die. Having a 2handed warrior or any melee damager insist on using their ranged weapon, is not the slightest bit helpful.
Having them path directly to the NPC so that in a tunnel the Ranged caster can then cleave through both of us.
With 190 health, and 190 stamina, a bit of magkia, I perhaps could of dumped everything in Health, but with a Icelance taking 50%, 80 health, pushing to 350health with 50% frost resistance, would equate into an ability to eat 8-10 hits, as the Ice Storm consumes all the health pool (190) 350healt and 50% frost resistance would leave me with 4 hits till death.
Vilkas is using his bow, and I hit for about 1/17 of its life pool each shot.
