.fomod file?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:10 am

What is it? Like when i used to mod oblivion I downloaded something like it, I think it was an .omod file and it gave me a virus.

I'm a little skeptical about a mod I really want and nervous. Here is the mod: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38093

Under the installation process, it says copy files to your FOMM mods directory, what does that mean? This is mainly for the .fomod's

The whole thing confuses me and I thought mods go under your Data Folder.

Help with installation for this mod is greatly appreciated.

Also, I'm updating my Fallout 3 FOMM to the newer one where it is for Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, here: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640

Where does that go because where my games are located aren't under programfiles(86) or something like that, they are under a folder called "games". Where does the New FOMM go so that it works for Fallout 3 and New Vegas?

Thanks to anyone who decides to read my questions and help me!

You can install it by opening up FOMM, opening the package manager, clicking "add FOMod" (its the top right button in the window, but it may say something else, and if so you'll need to click the drop down arrow on the right side of it and select the "add FOMod" option) and browsing to the compressed file containing the FOMod file. Not sure about the virus aspect, you could scan it if you're worried about it.

.fomod is just another form of compressed file like a .zip or .rar file. Desert Succubus is safe from viruses. I have several of the files active right now. You can actually unzip the .fomod archive to your desktop and double click the icon and that will open FOMM so you can install the mod without digging around through all of the Steam folders.

Also is installing NVSE just like FOSE? Idk I had the whole modding thing down and now I'm confused again lol *sigh*

Archive Invalidation is included in FOMM, it's under the Tools menu the last item in the list. Make sure it has a check mark in front of it, and then open/close FOMM at least once to set it.

NVSE is installed into your root Fallout NV directory, NOT the Data Files directory. If you see files such as FalloutNVLauncher.exe and Fallout_default.ini you're in the right place.

OK, I found the archive thing and I'm installing NVSE now, thanks everyone, I think I've got this now, I'll post if I have a problem.

Edit: I dont see any exe files when I extracted the folder. Looks like this:

The files I copied are in BOLD.

src
nvse_1_1.dll
nvse_editor_1_1.dll
nvse_loader
nvse_readme
nvse_steam_loader.dll
nvse_whatsnew

and it works, no problems.

You shouldn't get a vrius from a .omod file. All that does is unpack mods to a specific folder. I don't think it runs executables.

That being said, if you think you have an infection or you want to make sure you don't get one, I've got a guide on cleaning and protecting your PC from infections with completely free software.

Edit: I downloaded the Desert Succubus mod and it seems as soon as I customize my character in the game (New Game), Fallout stops working and a thing pops up saying that it has stopped working, every time I try to make a character.

Any fixes for this?

Seems to be a problem every time I try to choose an eye texture.
