US$25 for Australian gamers

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 3:46 am

I'll grab it at winter Steam sales thanks Bethesda - I love your game designers I feel for them - but your marketing department would recieve some very choice words from me if it wasn't for the modders here and their over zealous treatment of those who speak their minds.

Hope the sales tank especially just after steam sales month - but I doubt it.

Yep could not agree more. I have over 340hrs played in Skyrim but there is no way I'm paying $25 for a digital product.

It's $25? I thought it was only $20.

Read the title, it's $25 in Australia.

Maybe its the bonus if it scores more than 85% on metacritic?

Well as often mentioned in Europe 20 Euro, think that is also near 25 dollars. A heacy price for this dlc that offers one and a half guild questlines (This can't count as really two questlines) and a bit other content.

Besides why do we all have to pay more than in the U.S.A. For the shipping ;)?

If they wanted better scores - try treating its customers fairly and with dignity.

Wow, the US, Canadian and Australian dollars are almost on par and we paid 20 dollars here in Canada. I'd be a bit angry too.

I always thought Canada had more expensive pricing compared to America... Or do comics just have the more expensive prices? Maybe things have changed.

I only have had this impression because of what comics say is their Canadian price.

US dollar used to be worth more (eck, about ten years ago 1 Canadian dollar would get you about .65 US) but the US dollar has lost value and the high price for natural resources (which Canada is filled with) has pushed our dollar up. Some companies still try to [censored] us over with pricing though. Eck, there was an article the other day about cars built in Canada, with both dollars equal, that were being sold at a higher price in Canada (not counting taxes here, just base price). That's just wrong.

They screw over foreign currencies.
For example, the Euro is stronger than the dollar, but they want €20 for it all the same, meaning Europeans actually have to pay $24.
They probably do it knowing no one will boycott over a 20% increase in price and knowing full well that customers have little choice than to pay the extra cost.

Judging from Steam's current performance, I'd say the chances of initial sales "tanking" are somewhere around 0%.

Not for anything, but there are a TON of American products that are ridiculously expensive in other countries. In fact, the price hike in Australia, well, that has NOTHING to do with Bethesda since you're not buying from them directly. My guess is, like virtually all cases, it has more to do with your local tariffs, fees, duties, etc.

And, FWIW, game prices, like movie prices, book prices, and any other intellectual property have very little to do with hard products like paper and CDs. And, actually, if you REALLY think about it, you're FAR better off with a product like this off of Steam, where THEY keep your backup copy. No worries about destroyed discs. ;) Just download again. New computer, no problem, just download again, no pesky reg checks or anything like that.

Okay. An issue of the American Sonic comics from Archie that I bought from a store in 2006 says the Canadian price for it is $2.65. It is a bit less in US dollars. Not surprised that I should have researched things once the US dollar lost so much value. Blame the fact that I was a kid at the time when it was 2006 and I just was confused by the Canadian price on the comic.

£14 over in Merry Ol' England. I will probably be waiting until winter sales. Letting Bethesda hold it back from PC and PS3 then lapping it up the moment they eventually release it tells them that its ok for them to do this, which it is not. Judging from sales of Dawnguard on Steam not many others share my opinion. I'll still feel like a bad person if I give them money so I'll wait until I can get it for £7, from the sounds of things it isn't even worth the full £14.

Also if I wait there'll be a ton of mods and fixes for Dawnguard by the time I get it. Cheaper and better quality.

FINALLY!! Someone willing to commit to their complaints against Bethesda.

I commend you, good sir!

Seems ridiculous that so many people that were complaining nonstop just two days ago are rushing to grab their credit cards and buy the DLC.

I'm only waiting because I don't feel like getting it until it actually has an impact on the modding community. I don't mean a small one. I mean one where everything seems to require it. I am not happy with how this situation was handled on the marketing and Bethesda's side of things. I hope efforts to show this teach the ones at the side that controls the most why it was a bad idea to be silent.

I was just more silent about this unhappiness because I didn't feel like voicing it. Even as a PC convert, I was and am unhappy.

Even though PC gamers get the short end of the stick occasionally its no reason to be unhappy. At least we eventually get sales and the like on steam. The best folks on consoles can hope for is 25% on Fallout New Vegas content, years after it was released. Skyrim itself is 50% off right now and that ain't bad. I'm going to wait until it goes on sale but I'm not going to feel sad about it, I'm going to play one of my many other games.

I'm not sad, just disappointed with how the whole thing was handled. Eh. I'm happy with my PC copy, just hate how things went for the console users. PS3 was left in the dark, and that irked me. I was unhappy with that. I play Skyrim and Morrowind almost 24/7 lately. Haha.

At least you are lucky enough to BE ABLE to buy it. PS3 customers, for example, will pay the exact same price for outdated and overbugged content 3 months later.

$25 US for New Zealanders also, not quite as much as a rip-off for us as it is for the Aussies, cause of our dollar being lower, but still a massive rip-off imo. This is unacceptable, I will not be buying Dawnguard at anywhere near this price. Whoever is responsible for such unfair pricing for those outside of the USA needs to sort this **** out now - for all games on steam, not just skyrim.

My thoughts exactly.

Dawnguard still looks good to me but I don't think it's worth £14 especially since Skyrim is now on sale again for £18!

I'm in no hurry to give Beth my money after they sided with MS. I've learnt to wait very well so it's no problem for me to wait further until the next Steam sale.

Question, Dead island is the only Australian game I can think of, how much was that released for in AU? Because if it was released for the same price as American games then there might be something you Aussies are paying for (tax, tarriff etc) Can anybody fill me in?

As far as I'm aware, whilst you save yourself some cash, steam are the guys who take a hit money-wise when they do sales...

They'll still be turning a profit though, even at sale prices.

Rarely will a company sell anything for cost price, and never below cost unless it's seriously hard to shift out of date crap stock.
