So for gamers without XBL...

...we should not bother with this game due to all of the bugs right? Or is it actually playable and you can backtrack to a previous save when you encounter a serious bug?

When the inevitable GOTY version comes out will it include the patches?

So far its playable for me, but honestly the patches would help a lot, ive heard mention of people being able to ask a gamestore if they could kindly download the patch for them so thats an option.

GOTY will most likely include all the patches available up to its release date.

Oh and you dont have to have a paid XBL account, silver accounts still download patches.

I believe Gamestop allows you to do this- bring your memory card and in the XBOX display area, you should be able to update so long as you have a file from the game there.. So unless you're so far out into the sticks or currently fighting a war outside the country, you have options.

I don't think this is true for Xbox game patches, only firmware patches.

If Gamestop allows you to download patches that is awesome. I'll give them a call and see if they let me download the patches at the store.

The only way to get patches that are under 6MB like the current patch is through xbox live. You don't need to pay for xbox live. a free account will do. That's because small patches are stored in the cache.

If a patch is over 6MB though like the fallout new vegas patch it can be copied to a USB drive from a friends console then copied to your own console. Patches over 6MB are not stored in the cache so are visible where the saves are stored and can be copied to USB drive.

So unless Skyrim gets a large patch over 6MB it will be impossible for anyone without broadband to patch the game.

I think it's absolutely terrible that a game hits store shelves, yet it clearly doesn't function correctly. Bethesda are PC developers at heart. A developer who is always looking to patch their games after release to fix the things that shouldn't have been there in the first place.

I feel terribly sorry for people who aren't connected to XBOX LIVE. With all the games that I've experienced over the XBOX 360's life span, Bethesda will undoubtedly go down as the developer infamous for having the worst track record with regards to games that function properly. In fact, I have had more problems with any 'ONE' of their games than I've had with the whole 360's library combined. It really is poor form.

Bethesda make some fantastic games, they really do. Believe it or not I'm a great fan. The atmosphere of Skyrim is brilliant, the game is brilliant. It's just a shame they can't lose this terrible ability for producing games that need patching from day one... and beyond.

I only recently got an Xbox and since Skyrim wasn't out I bought Oblivion GOTY, I thought it strange that it had the expansions but you had to update to make them play. I bought a 25ft Ethernet cable to hook up to my router in the next room. My friend who doesn't have internet has to take his 360 to his mums to use her modem to get updates.
