For those wanting to know if their computers can handle it.

TOR and TESO will be using the same engine, so their system requirements will likely be similar.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Old_Republic (Look at the "quick info" box.)

There will be no console option.

Really? If your computer fails to meet those requirements, you sure aren't running Skyrim halfway decently.

Same engine =/= same requirements.

I depends on how well they optimize it. Texture quality, poly count, world density.

MMO norm is to reach a wide audience which means making the game very accessable. Its even being made for Macs. If you can run Skyrim, I seriously doubt you will have any issues with this game.

I have never played that game before but just by looking at it, shows that it does load properly I could be wrong but if Skyrim could have that engine it could be for the best...

That is true, but it remains a good starting off point. Even if Zenimax completely retools the engine down from the skeleton, there will still be that engine's underlying weaknesses and strengths left over.

I'm not saying that TESO's requirements will be identical to that of TOR's, is my point, but they won't be radically different, either.

Would it cost a lot of money to get a new computer these days?

Good thing I'm purchasing a new PC this summer, I should be able to handle it no problem.

I have a laptop and TOR ran just fine for me.

  • Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000 or better / Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0 Ghz or better
  • Memory: At least 1.5 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabyte http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Random-access_memory for XP / 2 GB or better for Windows Vista/7
  • Graphics: ATI XT1800 or better / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia7800 or better / Intel 4100 or better. 256 MB minimum video RAM, shader 3.0 or better fully compatible graphics card.
That is almost equivalent to specs for a netbook, much lower than the minimum specs for Skyrim.

If you can run Skyrim, you'll be able to run TESO. TESO may even run better under most circumstances. No need to panic until Zenimax releases concrete information.

Ah right, I've just never tried to run any 'proper' games on the laptop so I was worried. I've only been playing things like Age of Empire, Terraria and Minesweeper! :D

Get a cooling pad when you start playing 'proper' games.

Ahh well I'm not saying other games aren't 'proper', just you know anything that requires something with a powerful graphics card! Whats a cooling pad?

It's basically a rest of sorts for your laptop. You put your laptop on it and it usually has fans and other things in it to better facilitate air flow for your laptop's own fans, and keeping it cooler. Not only does that increase performance, but it also increases the lifespan of your laptop.

Hopefully they optimise this a LOT better than what Bioware did with SWTOR.
