Forsworn Briarhearts - bugged or very odd scaling?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 10:20 am

Forsworn ravagers have been doing the same thing for me. Second i hit 50 they started oneshotting everything.

I'm not kidding, one walked up the road calmly.

First he one shotted my horse. (400 hitpoints?)

Then he one-shotted j'zargo with a kill-animation (Full ebony armour)

Then he one-shotted me. (250 hitpoints, 660 armour)

...this is not balance. Fortunately I have my own equally cheap and deadly strategies (FUS-RO-CLIFF!)

these guys do a crap load of damage even with 80% damage resist and 900 hp. i attempted to thrall a ravager but he would never dual wield, just used 1 sword and left the other hand empty.

I think there's a middle ground there that is completely missed, between the hordes of cannon fodder that is easily one-shotted, and the almighty Forsworn Briarheart.

That said, I don't actually have too much trouble killing them... Like everybody else, I stay out of range.

skyrim is not "scaled" as it was in OB there are hard enemies and easier ones now.

When experimenting thralls with my Necromancer , i was constantly checking the stats and levels of the enemies and always looking for a stronger enemy to revive permanently .

And around level 42-45 , i remember i noticed several Briar Hearts i met where above level 50 , and had a high health , low armour profile , with dual wield (double damage ) .

By testing them as dead thralls (using a mod that allow to raise creatures above lvl 40 ) , i realized they are the strongest you can raise for pure melee thralls (with high lvl Bandit leaders and Draug Death Overlords with 2Handers ) , so i'm not surprised to see this thread

Don't those Briarhearts have a heart you can pickpocket from them and they'll die instantly?

Yep.

And then they send Hired Thugs after you from beyond the grave.

I like that I can be trudging through a forsworn camp stifling a yawn, and suddenly a briarheart jumps out and wipes the floor with me. Makes me think about my tactics next time. Makes me go through my arsenal of weapons that I normally never use, and try different strategies. I usually just end up pulling out Sanguine Rose. How I love that staff.

Enemies have level ranges, but they're still scaled. If you spawn a draugr scourge at level 1, it'll be much weaker than a draugr scourge you'd face at 20.

First Briarheart I run into is at less than level 10 and is a pretty easy kill. By the time my character is in the 50s they're insanely hard thanks to ridiculous scaling (to the point they could single-handedly take on Alduin) and still drop the same old light armor and weapons they did at the beginning of the game. Cheap.

I have the same or even worst problem.

Days ago I was intercepted by thalmor deathsquads. The problem is: I am stealth. I do hide in the shadows. It was 3:00 AM.
Used a invisibility potion. Walked sneaky to the deathsquad.

suddenly.. 100 meters far.. they start running. When they got close enough they tossed a Lightning bolt to me and killed me in one hit. 250HP.

I used lightning resist to 80%

Still being killed in one shot. Hell... what?! I was invisible.

Toggled God mode and slashed my swords. You can't believe but took about 5 minutes to kill ONE OF THE thalmors - the mage one.

Suddenly skeevers started to attack my by 1/4 of my health. So, what?! Are you kidding, elder scrolls.. ? Had to desperately use potions while fighting 4 skeevers.

So, maybe the game has some bizarre issues. Briarhearts also kills me easily, but at least I do as much damage as they do to me, so it's a "Who's faster" game.

I never had a problem with them, all of the sudden they are killing me in one flurry. I have 600 health and 270 armor(45% reduction of physical damage). On expert. I just finished the MQ, level 53 right now and nothing has come close to killing me for quite some time. In fact this was my first death on this character, who I was about done with anyway since I've completed most of the game. So I haven't been playing very carefully, and was starting to use melee just for laughs on my archer and to gain levels.

I go to a forsworn camp(Hag's End), kill pretty much everything easily up until a briarheart, the briarheart kills me in three quick swings in I assume a dual wield power attack with dual axes.

That means they're doing roughly 300 damage before armor is factored in, with one handed weapons. I can take more hits from a Draugr Death Overlord with a 2 handed ebony weapon than I can from this briarheart. This thing is hands down the most powerful creature in the game I've encountered so far, it's not even a contest.

I'd be like "okay" if this was Alduin or something, but it's just a standard leveled enemy type wielding some of the lowest level weapons in the game. If it's not a bug it's just plain stupid.

The scaling in this game is idiotic.

Some enemies are completely overpowered and then when being a high level (50+) everything can be 2 shotted on Master.

You can be detected while invisible unless you're also silent.

All the same, I agree there are some strange scaling issues.

I was sneaking. I have excessive perks: Unhindered for light armor, silence (running or sneaking does not make difference) and I was still invisible before they spotted me. Well.. whatever.

There are bizarre issues, indeed.

pickpocket the heart=dead briarheart, get caught=dead thief. They are a tough fight for sure but I think like Hagravens they are made to be that way

The guide doesn't say they use poison, but the guide was wrong about the inability to soul trap the draugr (since I can soul trap them just fine). The highest level briarhearts are level 51, with a health just over 600, and no damage data provided other than using 2, 1-handed weapons.

They are just as lethal for me as the highest ranked magic-using Forlorn and Falmer.

True, but the first time I came across a hagraven was indoors/close quarters combats in my high 20s they are pretty tough then. I agree though Briarhearts sold their souls for the power they wield for sure

It's probably because you have an extremely low armour rating. My Paladin has around 780 at the same level, and I smoke them.

I would sell my soul for ridiculous damage in a video game.
