Fortification vs Regeneration: Which characters do you think

Post » Thu Aug 23, 2012 1:21 am

Like a destruction mage that usees impact, regen would be better. As would be the case for one that uses restoration. But a mage that uses Conjuraction, Illusion, and Alteration, they are a bit 'top-heavy'. They require a lot of magicka at the beginning of a battle so would probably benefit from flat fortification more.

For stamina, an archer would probably be better served with regen, while a melee warrior is better off with just a large pool of stamina.

For health regen, Im not really sure. I think that sword and board warriors msy benefit from it most. I do believe health regen is useful, and that it can be used effectively even in combat, In an extended battle, it can be worth potentially 100s of health points. But health regen is different than stamina or magicka, and can be potetnially useful or worthless for all characters.

Of course, a mixture of both is probably beneficial, but some characters would be better off leaning towards one or the other.

Just a thought I had, not much point to this topic i guess, but just something I was thinking about.

Would you agree with this assessment?

For your 1-2 primary magic schools Fortify is the way to go. Dual casting zero cost fireballs all day long is just too good to pass up.

Always fortify for health, it might just stop you getting one-shotted, which could allow potion use or a healing spell that otherwise you would not get a chance at.
And remember, regeneration is a percentage of your total per second, so all else being equal, the higher the attribute, the more you regenerate. Using a bunch of fortifies to double your magicka therefore adds 100% to regeneration as well.

I don't play like that, but yes, fortifying the magicka school is the best option, but beyond that choosing magicka regen or fortifying it is next.

Im aware of that, and thats why a mix of both is the best option, but leaning towards one or the other is better for different characters. You aren't going to be able to fortify an item with enough magicka to make it equal to even 50% magicka regen if your character is supposed to be a mage. With just 300 magicka, a fortification of 70 would only be about 25%, so a regen of 70 would be better for some characters.

Regeneration is for when you have to deal with a lot of damage over time. Fortify is for when you have to be able to take big hits. They can worth together or independently, as they counter different aspects of damage.

In early game foritification is better, but the high level and magicka investment you got then you will reach a point that regen is better.

I think the point is 600 magicka, saw a formula of one of the talk page in uesp but forgot which
