Forum backgrounds?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 12:07 am

Not sure where this is meant to be posted but i couldnt find a feedback forum and it doesnt belong in game specific forums..

Does anybody else find it really hard to read the skyrim forum due to the forum background? i find it nearly impossible to read and was wondering whether there is a standard view i could go back to or whether one could become available for users. I love these forums but having light coloured text over light parts of a picture hurts my eyes and makes me strain to read it.

Has anybody else encountered this problem?

I love these forums though, its my 'go to' forum when im really fed up at work :D

Use the "Elegance" theme instead. It's very fast, clean and easy to read :) In fact, it's superior to the Warrior theme in almost every aspect.

It's on the bottom left of every page.

I kept forgetting to change my theme. Done now. I'm never reverting.

Are we looking at the same theme? I'm getting light grey text on a white background that gives me a quick headache.

Maybe you should calibrate your monitor better :P

They are calibrated. It's about as visible as it gets from 0 to 100 contrast. Increased brightness improves it a bit, but I can't stand bright monitors.

Well it's certainly not a light gray font. It's not a very dark gray, but it's quite dark. Inside quote boxes it's a lighter gray and same for the signature, but posted text is quite legible. Perhaps your color balance is off.

Only color I can think of that gives me trouble on it is yellow-colored text posts. I've used this skin on 7 different monitors without issue on any of them. Most calibrated, some not.

I doubt my color balance is off. I was pretty meticulous about getting these monitors set up right. Though I'd like to get some sort of calibration tool.

The white background has a brightness value of 100, the text has a brightness value of 73 (or 255 vs. 186 in RGB). That's not dark IMO.

This is compared to the ~9 brightness brownish grey background of the Warrior theme, which as far as I can tell uses the same font color. While I'm no fan of white on black (or grey on brown) the increased contrast makes it more legible for me.

I'm using a custom stylesheet so I have no idea how the original text looked like and I'm too lazy to check. :P

IIRC it wasn't too bad though

Jeez of Naz. I can't possibly switch to something that bright after being on default for this long.

Yeah, I use a custom stylesheet, but I don't think I touched the font color (just made the background a tad darker and fixed the broken button hover), but that's not on all the computers I use... at least I don't think it is... What do I have Opera sync?!

I'm using Warrior, but manually removed the background image with Adblock. It runs faster and the black background is nice on my eyes, especially at night.

Elegence looks like complete crap, in my opinion. I'm with Frodo, it's kind of hard to read, especially the light gray quoted text. I prefer Warrior, I just don't like some aspects of it. I wish they'd redesign it, but that won't happen for awhile.

Elegant is crap compared to IP.Board. Elegant is way too compacted and bubbly. I own Photoshop so obviously I know what I'm talking about.

The Elegant and IP board styles are a bit too bright for me, especially over long periods. Warrior is fine, I have the forum window set to 98% (Stylish script) so there is very little background showing on the sides. I have to admit that some of the forums with picture backgrounds showing through (Brink, Arx etc) can be distracting but I don't spend a lot of time in those.
