Forum update discussionissue reporting #6

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 9:47 pm

Besides the heart debacle (actually it was a PipPipPip problem for me) I haven't noticed anything happening. Well, the quotes are in some RTF format, but otherwise it all looks/feels the same to me. And I'm one of the most observant people around. For example, I just noticed I have two (2) mouse buttons. How many people can say that, eh?

That was IP.Board's decision for the Rich Text Editor. if you want to see the quote tags, you need to use the plaintext editor (click the switch in the upper-left corner)

Something I just realized about naming links. I used to just link the URL and type a description beside it. Now, I found that if you...

  1. type the name or phrase for your link
  2. highlight the name or phrase
  3. click the link button in the toolbar
  4. paste the URL
  5. profit!

Before, I had to type out the url code and insert a title manually. Not sure if it's always been like that. I know it used to have a title option box when opening the link window. but that was 2 years ago.

It worked the same way on the previous version of the forum software. That's how I always posted links.

I never knew that...

When they removed the option in the other update. I used this info from the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1457437-show-us-your-screenshots-82/#entry22586497.

First off, I'd like to point out that the option to receive a notification when someone quotes one of your posts is back. Hooray!

However, I've noticed that these notifications are all buggered up now. Sometimes I get the usual text in my notifications list, i.e. "X quoted a post you made", but sometimes I only get the user's avatar, a time stamp, and no text at all.

I know that this is related to the "user quoted my post" notification because the time stamps and avatars for these "empty" notifications always match the time stamps and avatars associated with real posts on this forum that actually quote me. I've also noticed that all of the posts associated with these buggered notifications were posts that had since been edited by the user that authored them. Maybe that's a part of the problem.

At any rate, may I ask that this be fixed? Broken notifications are worse than no notifications at all.

Oooo it's pretty now. :P

In all serious I'm glad I can see the quote box, it helps me format my responses in an OCD manner. ALL THE SPACES MUCH BE THE SAME SIZE.

The quote boxes are back!

As in the visible box around the quote, rather than just indented text indicating the quote.

They have been that way over the past few days for me.

On other notes...

I have always been able to see my name at the bottom. It is just marked with an asterisk. I assume that denotes an anonymous user. However, I don't see the need to have your name there. I mean you obviously know you are logged in.

I was wondering why I was not getting the quote notification, turns out that I forgot to enable it in the CP

But yay, they are back!

Indeed, it's quite a nice change.

Though a few themes would be nice for those of us incapable of using dark websites.

Indeed, I too wish they hadn't forced a single theme on everyone (because no one is going to use the mobile theme on a non-mobile device; that's craziness).

Since the forum update, my browser keeps reporting that the site now needs ..

Adobe Flash Player is required to display some elements on this page

No matter where I go on the forum

Any ideas why ?

The forum never used to require flash, and I dont think it is associated with any of the privacy policies. But now any version of chrome which does not have its own pepperflash installed, or adobe's own full blown pwn the user version .. Will now regularly be plagued by the missing plugin banner.

Whatever it is in the forum software that is new to the recent update - Can you please switch that off ?

I mean we have a hard time even displaying images here never mind anything flash has to offer. So whats the point of the forum software supporting it.

Some notifications are blank, only showing the avatar

When I try to come here fresh on my mobile sometimes the home page will not load. I'll get the top banner and a white page.
