FoV Goes a Long Way

Default FoV: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197968594195/screenshot/650997180301292172/?

Sickness inducing for some reason, as in I literally get dizzy

90 FoV: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197968594195/screenshot/650997180301294384/?

Ahh, my PC game feels like a PC game again! Thank Beth for including this easy change, without it I would have a hard time playing.

The music is really blowing me away right now, and the Khajiit models, great work ;)

Agreed! I made the FoV change to 90 in my .ini file and it's an awesome improvement. I'd recommend to any PC/Skyrim owner to check out the following article on tweaking the .ini file to improve a few things in Skyrim:

:celebration: I had totally forgot the FOV...90 FOV and increasing shadow resolution to make them less blocky are the first .ini tweaks I'm going to make in Skyrim.

Which ini file do I open up, SkyrimPrefs or just Skyrim to change this under?

Follow Indirion's link in the 2nd post ... that will get everything you need done.

I was til I started bypassing Steam going straight to the TESV.exe.

Note to those who don't know:

Using the console in game disables Achies. for that session. So do your changes, save the game, then reload and your good to go again. :)

I did that, but it's still default when I enter the game. I've tried it a couple of times.

I set it to 80 one time (in the .ini), and it was 80 when I entered the game. But after I exited, it went back to default (even though the text was still in the .ini).

I know you can't access individual files and edit the equivalent of the ini file in an Xbox game, but as far as anyone knows, is there a way to affect the field of view through some other setting or process on the Xbox? Or is it a situation where the limitation that had them set the default field of view IS in the Xbox'x capabilities itself? Just curious, because it'd be a nice change even though the current one is not all that big a deal to me.

Even though I edited my .ini file, I am still getting Steam achievements.

Is that permanent, or does it reset too (upon totally closing the game)?

Just checked the .ini again, and fdefaultfov=90 is definitely there where it's supposed to be, but my FOV is still default.

Can someone help me? :(

FOV of 90 makes the game feel like looking through a fish eye lens for me.

FOV must be changed via the in-game console. Just hit the tilde key (~) to the left of the 1 key and it will open, then type: fov 90

You can, of course, input any number you want besides 90 until you find a view you like best. Save your game and it should retain.

Excuse my ignorance, but how does this make it "feel like a PC game"? To me, someone who doesn't have a PC for modern games, it just looks better. I'd do it if I could on the 360.

Will it remain even after I exit the game, etc.?

It "feels like a PC game" because generally, in first person games, console games have much lower FOV angles which is due to the difference in sitting away from a TV versus sitting directly in-front of a monitor. Generally console first person games use a FOV angle around 60 where-as PC games generally use around 75. You will naturally feel more comfortable with a higher FOV the closer you are to the screen.

Yes, http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1259183-custom-fov-not-properly-saving-add-this-to-your-inis-instead/page__view__findpost__p__19189873 after the console commands. Read the rest of the replies after that. there is an issue with the hands/arms/weapons after going to the map, but I think the game makes the right choice as stated there.

Idk what default is, but I put it at 75 like I tend to do with all games. Not that I get a headache from the default.

Same here, 90 is too much for me too. My hands are unrealistically far from my eyes.
