FPS drop im concerned about

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 9:36 am

I hope a mod doesn't remove this as a spam or something but, I've been tweaking my skyrim settings and so far i can run everything on ultra with shadows at high. However the AA is turned to 4 and i have my nvidias gtx 560 forced AA set to 16x csaa and transparency to 4x supersample. However in riftens forests I get lowerd to an average 50-55, as well as other random locations. I have the latest drivers and the 1.6 patch. I realize this is actually really good for FPS but i want a solid 60.

Here are my specs. Anyone know how i can fix this FPS drop without lowering image quality?

You're unlikely to see that much difference between 16x CSAA and 8x CSAA or even 4x CSAA if you already have 4x in-game AND supersampling on top of that. If I was you I would just tone that down to 4x and see if that helps. Or turn down SS down to 2x, if you're on a 1080p screen or above it's really hard to tell the difference.

ll try that and see if it gets any better. i'm only on a 1600 900 res so it should be good. Thanks again.

maybe try using 4x sparse grid rather than full supersampling on the transparencies and see how it looks. i find it's a bit blurrier but you can also play around with the negative lod bias to offset that a bit.

doesn't the driver anti aliasing setting override the game setting?

How would one do this? I'm trying not to tweak my settings too much.

I find that the difference between low and high shadow quality is very minimal, yet it has a large (up to 25%!) impact on your FPS. I would recommend lowering your shadow quality to either medium or low for more FPS.
