PC FPS, Input delay fix.

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 6:54 pm

To disable VSync in Skyrim, add iPresentInterval=0 to the bottom of the [Display] section of the Skyrim.ini file in the \Users\[Username]\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim directory.

The game was unplayable for me without doing this, and the difference is immediately noticeable at the main menu.

I went from 30-40% usage with 30-60 fps to %100 usage and bajillion fps

Everyone will be wanting to do this until they patch the issue.

**No one will be able to fix the mouse issues. Bethesda needs to add hardware mouse support. Your Mouse movement is tied to your FPS. Its a big issue with console ports over the past couple years. I have seen games where they never fixed it. Lets hope thats not the issue here.

A sticky needs to be created or you need to patch this Asap. Its a game breaking bug.

Yea sorta. There is difference, that I am certain of, but it seems as if though there is some small delay.

Try setting the file to read only through its properties.

You can also try forcing Vsync off through your graphics card's settings panel (usually accessed by right clicking the desktop).

I don't have the game yet.

I tried it, but it didn't help. Although when I go to the menu, my FPS goes to 300. When I leave the menu, it drops back to 10-15. Maybe I did something wrong.

I am seeing many PC users with issues, that could possibly be fixed by this post. I hope it helps :)

FPS on a PC is capped at 60FPS for Skyrim.

To disable it, you have to add the line “iPresentinterval=0” to the Skyrim.ini file.

cheers

EDIT - also, V-synch caps your FPS to your monitor's refresh rate.

If you have a really good system, disable V-synch and add that line to your .ini file.

FPS is NOT capped. Vsync is on by default. That is where the horrible input lag is coming from.
If FPS was simply capped there would be no input delay.

Yes, it is capped:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/skyrim-performance-benchmark,3074-3.html

We’re testing a wide range of graphics cards, from the low-end Radeon HD 6450 and GeForce GT 420 to the powerful Radeon HD 6970 and GeForce GTX 570, along with a GeForce GTX 460 SLI setup. Note that Crossfire does not yet work with Skyrim, so we couldn’t test Radeon HD 6850s in tandem. However, AMD assures us that it's working on a driver update that should be available soon.

Skyrim employs a 60 FPS frame rate cap, but we turned it off by adding the line “iPresentinterval=0” to the Skyrim.ini file.

The lowest frame rates in Skyrim are usually encountered outdoors when trees and plants are present. We found the small town of Riverwood to represent some of the most demanding scenery, and so we tested there using Fraps.

loltomshadware....

Its Vsync. If there was a FPS cap there would be no input lag. This is not hard to figure out, and Tomshardware is a joke. There is no arguing this. I'm not going to argue with you, and I hope this helps some people out.

I'm just offering people options and stuff to try.

V-synch is only an issues on large monitors with low refresh rates (60mhz, etc...).

Wow, that made a big difference. Here I was thinking I'd have to play on low texture mode and still have it run slow, but now it's running smoothly on high. Thanks!
