FPS-RPG

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 12:26 pm

As I complete the ME series one more time I'm starting to tire of it and find myself skipping the story aspects, something I would rather not do.

So I find myself in need of another RPG, preferably western style, that has good shooter mechanics. A FPS (3rdPS also ok) with a good story or a hybrid of the two.

I have so far played;

ME 1-3
FO3
FO:NV
Metro 2033
Borderlands

Any suggestions? Xbox only please.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an FPS game, and a good RPG.

Deus Ex (the FPS-RPG hybrid everyone else wishes they could be) and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Vampire: The Masqerade - Bloodlines. It's not entirely an FPS, as it can be played with melee weapons in third-person, but then again, ME isn't a FPS at all either.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Not very shooter oriented game, but it has laser guns in it...

Still a great game. Other than than Deus Ex, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Both those Deus Ex's mentioned, Vampire of course, and might I suggest the STALKER series?

Ah man didn't notice the xbox only comment. Guess that limits you to Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Maybe FarCry 1 and 2? There is another coming out too. Not really an RPG though iirc. Been awhile. More like an adventure FPS i think.

You can also try System Shock 1/2 (only available on the PC) and Bioshock 1/2.

I wouldn't call the shooting mechanics in the original Deus Ex very good. They're a bit clunky. :P

On Xbox you're pretty limited. There's Deus Ex: Human Revolution for sure. And Bioshock has some minor RPG elements.

I would say STALKER, but I think that's PC exclusive.
And STALKER 2 which was supposed to come out for both console and PC is dead, again.
Shooter mechanics and good story you say.
I got some, but they're not really RPGs.
Splinter Cell series.
Mafia Series.
The AvP games are ok, but not really RPGs, but I find the campaigns enjoyable.

I suposse the Saints Row games have their share of RPG elements.
And the story is OK, though the mechanics aren't fantastic, it's more of the wacky bat[censored] crazy stuff that make the games fun.

You could try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_Protocol, gameplay is like a mix of Mass Effect and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, set in the modern day.

A western game with a good story is red dead redemption. It is third person though.

I've been trying to get into it but the controls are quite awful. Shooting over cover needs pushing 4 buttons?

Timesplitters 2

THAT'S a great game I love the Virus mode on that game---so fun. My favorite characters are Venus Starr (mainly because she "comes" whenever she get's killed), the Elvis Impersonator and R-108 or R-107 the guy in spandex and where's cardboard and thinks he's a robot.
