FRAPS Audio Synch Issues

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 6:46 am

Tried googling a solution to this, but the results that came up were only more questions, not solutions, so I am hoping some tech savvy folks may be able to help me out here.

I have been using FRAPS to record videos ever since October of 2011 and it worked well until I switched from my laptop to my desktop. On my laptop, I would record with a crappy Logitech USB Mic that I got for ten dollars, so all the audio from the game came out of my speakers, into the MIC.

Around the time I switched to my Desktop that was very recently built, I decided to get some better recording equipment. Went to Radio Shack and bought a nice 30 dollar headset that captures my voice fantastically and allows me to record sound through my system instead of an external source.

This is when the problems started to occur. In recent videos shot, I reviewed the content and discovered that audio-synch issues starts to become noticeable about four to five minutes in the video. I have no idea what is causing this problem, and have not found a way to do what would be the simple solution (have FRAPS stop recording every two and a half minutes than automatically restart).

I record at a locked 29.7 Frames a second, with video capture settings set to Full-Size (I have no clue what the other option, Half Size does), and audio coming from both, the system and my external output. I also set my games to their highest quality (even Ultra), as this computer can handle it with no problem.

Any suggestions would be very much welcome.

Could you post a screenshot of your settings?

And half size records, well, half size. I play at 1920x1080 and it records half the size of that (960x540). Saves on power needed to record and space needed to save.

I wonder if it has something to do with my PC Specs. I highly doubt it, as this seems to have started happening after I got the headset, but can never be sure.

A complete shot in the dark here but try un-checking 'lock framerate while recording'.

Good luck.

Is your sound in more than 2.1? If not, change it to "Stereo" instead of "Multichannel" and, like wolfpup said, try unchecking "lock framerate". Try recording at 30fps, as well, instead of 29.97.

Kept the frame rate locked, but did the rest. Worked like a charm, now everything syncs up. Time to start recording Fallout 3. Thanks guys!
