Freezing with New Patch

Post » Sun Dec 12, 2010 9:19 am

Well, I woke up this morning excited to download the newest patch, hoping that somehow the designers of this game fixed the glaring issues with Fallout New Vegas, namely the constant freezing of the game. Within five minutes of playing the game with the new patch installed, the game froze at the very same spot pre-patch. Then, I hoped for a miracle that it is was just one spot that the designers of the patch overlooked, so I figured I try skipping that particular quest and try another one, this time a main quest. Well, once again, within five minutes of playing this other quest, the game froze again! I know the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and hope for different results, but I just had to try again. Tried going to another location, and once again bam, game froze. I have tried everything I can think of, from exchanging a previous disk for a new one, in hopes it was just a faulty disk. I have cleared space on my ps3, downloaded the two patches, and all to no avail. Thanks again Bethesda!

Did you try deleting the game data and downloading both patches again?

I hate to admit it but, I've come to the conclusion that nothing can be done about the constant freezing the game engine is broken no patch by gamesas can fix this. I thought "Hey FO3 and Oblivion's crashing and freezing got fixed for the most part so why can't NV's" but that doesn't seem like the case... Such a shame. Very good game but too broken to enjoy.

After installing patch 1.02 my game still freezes every 10 minutes or less. Fallout 3 only froze once every few days, for me. But New Vegas every 10 minutes?! I have better things to do with my time than constantly rebooting a game I can't play for longer than 10 minutes at a time.

::sigh:: I guess I'll give up on this until they send out another patch, if ever. Maybe people with freezing issues are in a small minority, I don't know, but there's no way in Vegas I'm recommending this game to anyone without warning them about the risk of it being unplayable.

I don't think the freezing is just a problem for a minority of users. From what I've been hearing and reading, it is extremely common with ps3 and x-box users. I don't know much about it, but some people have claimed that the game engine itself is the problem and that no patch can do much about it. I don't know if that's true, but I've heard several people mention this. If this is the case, then we are really screwed. If only there existed some kind of legal recourse to force Bethesda to issue a full refund, because I can't get my $60 back from where I purchased the game. There should be some kind of class action lawsuit.

I know how ya feel I want my money back too! Thought I'd never say it but since I now realize the chance of the game actually being as playable as FO3 or oblivion (which for me was tolerable) is highly unlikely. I would like my money back so I can go get a game worth while. I also realize the chance of us getting our money back is probably lesser then NV getting fixed. so we pretty much did indeed get screwed.

We're trying to keep the number of duplicate/ similar threads on these boards to a minimum. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147839-patch-102-does-it-even-work/ is discussing pretty much the same thing, so please do continue this over there.

Thanks!
