First of all.. As I said .. it's not a big deal that something very weird happened centuries before the next elder scrolls game... but still...
Is like playing a game with a real world background and discovering that when rome conquered basically all europe it did with the alliance of Japan and Mexico, and they fought against the Huns, the Canadians and the Maori....
In a great IP like Elder scrolls, wich I consider one of the best fantasy settings of all times, that's pretty much a shame.
And being a game not from Bethesda but still from the zenimax family I doubt it will be considered non canon (but .. seriously zenimax .. you should really consider that... make it all non canonical and keep the window open for some story taht makes more sense and doesn't have some weird gameplay to justify)
Don't get me wrong .. I know there are a lot of mechanics that are still in the dark... I have no doubt that some could prove "interesting".
But on the other hand we have a lot of things that we do know.
Imagine if they announced "The elder scrolls online Racing" where you can drive a porsche a ferrari or a Toyota in a course stretching from Morrowind to Highrock.
I mean ... do you really need to know any more before you say "seriously... WTF?!?"
Then maybe you find out thate there are teh mage guild drivers against the fighter guild drivers... and the dark brotherhood shows up on the track driving a monstertruck and trying to kill you... and maybe there are some mechanics that are pretty cool for a driving game, and some other that makes the game look a little bit more familiar.....
But it's still a Driving game.....
So.. considering that most people play games from the Elder scrolls franchise for the sandbox game, the free roam, the classless skillbased character developement, the immersion of a first person real time sword and sorcery battle... Should they really try it or wait for more information after they hear nothing like that will be in teso?
But again ... I'm not upset about the fact that they are doing a game I don't like... I mean ... that would be insane...
As I said I'm worried about what the elder scrolls MMO Idea meant to a LOT of TES fans.
If you are an old fan you should know ... a massive amount of people speculated over the years about the possibilities of making a multiplayer elder scrolls.
And they all meant an MMO with the sandbox, freeroaming, classless , first person features we all know and love.
I know perfectly how things works... the difference between producers and developers... and believe it or not I'm Kinda into the industry... in the very margin ... but still .. I know how it works.
I know it's all about statistics... and money in teh hands of people that do not have the slightest Idea of what a videogame is.
BAsically they are not passionate about games, they are more passionate about clever ways of making money...
That's not very good for the industry.. but .. if you want to make that AAA game you have to bend to the rules.
the problem is ... Statistic Killed innovation...
It may seem something the guys with the $$$ could Ignore but in fact they shouldn't because the machine already crashed.
You are in the industry .. you should know... every day more and more people turns into retrogaming and indie games turning their back from AAA project that are "a copy of something that is already functioning" because really... if it is already there, and I'm already playing it ... why should I change the game instead of sticking with what I know?
I guess they will not learn untill they throw hundred thousands of dollars in a failure as many companies did recently... sadly that will mean nobody will throw that kind of money for a sandbox, first person MMO .... they will just consider the Idea of a Elder scrolls MMO not worthy ... at least with the latest sales of Skyrim they will probably never consider the whole IP hopeless... Consider if the MMO failed and there was no recent single player game to confirm that TES is still a valid IP... in that case ... TES would have died for real...
