Do you have a link to this Q&A? I don't ever remember reading any one of them every saying that, but I could be wrong,

http://tamrielfoundry.com/development-faq/#ref

If you go to the PvP section Tamriel Foundry said that ZeniMax has elected to not have any type of structured or instanced PvP because they thought it would take focus away from Cyrodiil.

So to me that says that there will not be any type of arenas in at launch. But, that doesn't mean they won't be added in later.

Note that they did, in the end, decide to go away from that concept before release; so one could still say "that's what elder scrolls almost was, but ultimately wasn't" and have some validity :P

this is very true, I enjoyed world PvP in WoW, but you had to organize a raid on the opposing faction, which literally took 1-2 hours on average, then you raid the opposing faction for 30 minutes to an hour, and they stop fighting back (90% of the time it doesnt even take 30m for them to stop). then your left again waiting for TB, BG's, and Arena queue's.

queued PvP was the only guarantee of a consistent flow of PvP, where ESO will have Cyrodiil, a place you can always find PvP and eliminate the need for queued PvP

I do love arenas in WoW and would def play them in ESO though, but only if they have no reward system; don't want to take away from Cyrodiil

This + 3v3 maps. I have a couple of friends I enjoy PvPing with. I don't want another WoW Arena.

If ESO dosnt have some kind of competitive play at launch that dosnt involve zerg on zerg on zerg action then im not gonna participate.

Personally I think Zenimax is better off concentrating all their PvP efforts on the war in Cyrodiil to make it as good as it possibly can be, and some point down the road they can then add in an arena.

Agreed, especially about the reward system.

I like what's happening in ESO at the moment due to the fact that there are things to be gained from world pvp... Thus keeping an incentive for people to play there.

Hehe true, but that ignores that it is still a big part of the lore and there was an Arena faction quest-line in Oblivion. ;)

The "unlocking other areas" is the part that has me head-scratching.

Particularly with faction-locked zones. If they unlock a portion of - say - Skyrim... that means they have to ALWAYS have 2 other faction zones unlocked for the other 2 factions as well... EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Of course, now that they smartened up and listened to the players via implementing the end-game PVE zone questing versions of cross-faction zones... they MIGHT be able to just get away with adding, say, the Reach into Skyrim and then just have the 2 other factions play leveled versions of that.

As long Arenas are just for fun or PvE Content, its ok for me.

I really dont like the Idea of Instanced PvP as Content.

PvP Should have a Reason and it should be War. Not a Mindless Minigame where you playing Capture the Flag with your Enemys or Spend your Lifes in an Arena.

There is a Empire with no real Leader and you need all your Men for the War and you let them kill each other in an Arena for nothing? That does not make any sense to me.

To me personaly Battlegrounds and Arenas are a joke. There are Empires at war and Citys Razed and Familys killed and you have nothing better to do then playing some Games with your Enemys and get Rewards from your Faction for that?

Your Faction should Banish you for that :)

You're looking at it from a RP perspective and it's true in a sense. But, arenas have been in the TES franchise for awhile, so there is no reason why they shouldn't be in the game later after launch.

You should also take in to consideration that people enjoy doing arenas for the eSport aspect of it. People enjoy flexing their internet muscles and showing off that they are the best 1v1ers out there in the game. There's nothing wrong with them really adding arenas to the game, because it just adds another element that attracts certain players. It always just seems to boil down to this with any type of thing, if you don't really like it you aren't being forced to play it.

I don't think they will run out of expansion content. Though i doubt they will ever put the other continents in the game(i think their are like 2 other continents or something) they have other deadric realms that could easily be used to drive PvE content.

I still think a gladiator like arena would be welcomed in the game if not for the sake of PvP but for PvE maybe fighting monsters and what not, would be fun i think.

As far as PvP, expanding on this can be tough but on some level its pretty much player driven and doesnt need much content introduced, at least not as quickly as pve content. They just need to add rewards and incentives and people will play World PvP.

But I am being forced to deal with the side-effects of it's presence. Just as with raids, or crafting, or RP considerations (presuming anyone ever took them seriously, that is.) Support for structured pvp bleeds into class, ability and itemization balance; generates a new avenue along which calls for nerfs or buffs are voiced and justified. Maintenance takes up development resources, ostensibly paid for by the added subscriptions.. but in practice? No guarantees.

Also, the population skew that comes of asking people to choose between "always-on arena" versus the "hit-and-miss" action of a large-scale open world campaign.

Im looking also from a PvP player perspective. Its almost impossible to make the balance for PvP and Arena. Something works with Hundreds of Players fighing each other might not work for a 3vs3 szenario. And something works Perfectly with a 1vs1 might not work abit for Cyrodiil.

Ive better go with the PvP Battles then having an Developer Spending time, efford and money on Arena battles and making one of the main areas of the game unblanced.

If they make Arenas for the Esports comunity they will have alot work. Because those Peoples play for real money and its impossible to satesfy them as soon real money comes in the game. That one of the reasons Blizzard sayd they wished they never had implanted Arenas.

Arena is part of Elder Scrolls. Thats a fact. But they where always PvE. I dont see a reason why change that. PvP Esports Arena is a whole different thing then ES Arenas in the past.

I am not to worried about it at this point, main reason the game is going to have a lot going for it at launch, but I did hear the dev's say in an interview, that if enough people ask for certain things they would most likely add them, now how fast I dunno.

I know most game today have areas and content for some reason don't make it in for launch and they add it a month or two after launch, and I am sure a good compnay already has some future content, expansions or what ever being worked on when the game launches, time will give us the answer, I would not worry, play and enjoy until we see what the future holds..

I've already posted my concerns on Arenas on this game. I already said that the reason I'm hesitant on arenas in this game is that now they have to start balancing the game towards the 1v1 which completely affects everything in the game. It was a big issue with WoW when they released their arenas and now builds that were fun and viable in PvE were suddenly worthless, because they had to nerf that spec for arenas. I like the mentality of the Rock > Scissors > Paper > Rock. I like certain classes or specs having weaknesses to other ones, and not trying to balance every class out so that they are all even. It's impossible to balance every class out and really hurts in other parts of the game.

Personally I would like to see whats beyond the continent of Tamriel, there's been mention of some other continents in some of the lore and books, such as Atmora which is suppose to be way north of Tamriel where the anchient Nords came from and it's suppose to be even colder and harsher then Skyrim. Theres also Akavir to the east and Yokuda and Pyandonea to the south west beyond Summerset Isle, man I really want to see some new lands for a change, every Elder Scrolls game so far has been taking place in the same continent.
