Game always freezes in the same one spot

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 11:58 am

So my Skyrim's been running fine, I'm 12 hours into the game and not one crash or issue.

However, when I enter the Pelagius Wing of the Blue Palace, I can't go beyond a certain spot.
The game freezes (the music continues playing) and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del.

Here's exactly where this occurs:

Right after I break through those cobwebs *bam*

I tried sneaking past that point, walking on the sides of the corridor instead of in the middle, (lol) but in vain.

Freezing at exactly the same spot. Its really frustrating because I just found out who the questline is about and its like, my favorite person :(

Anybody else having this problem?

So it's not just me!

Has anyone else not had this problem in this precise place? I'm suspecting that a lot of people, if not all, will have this problem there... they just haven't arrived to it...

I'm experiencing a similar issue, though not in this spot (I haven't been able to get that far). Whenever I attempt to enter a building, cave, anything, I get the exact same type of freeze. the loading screen animates and the music plays, but will never actually load and I have to ctrl-alt-del out.

Anyone else?

same problem here, for me the freeze locations are Orphan Rock and plain with the broken tower on it above the town of Rorikstead.

the game just freezes, like the guys above said, i cant move, cant do anything :(

Ive tried all sorts of stuff, different resolutions, game details, game reinstalling, save swapping between computers, GFX drivers reinstalling, compatibility mode, im running out of options...

Gstaff, has this problem been fixed? Because I went through my saves and found the one which I could send you, and when I tried it out this time I had no freeze! The game continued (by loading the next scene as it should) :)

@ asg0noir -- better send him a PM. He might not see your reply in this thread...

I have this exact same problem at the same location, a crash as soon as I walk down there

I'm glad I'm not the only one (cause that way its more likely to get fixed)

It freezes at the same point for me too. It also locks up the same way right before I get in the cart for the embassy party. Seems to lockup rather then load whatever it wants to.

I revisited this quest after a few (cough 40 or so) more hours of play - and it worked just fine. Its at the point where you're forcefully equipped with fine clothing.

The only major difference between this and the last time i visited is i did not have any fine clothing already in my inventory this time. Either that or it was something else I was wearing.

It could be irrelevant but try dropping it maybe? see if you still freeze?

For what it's worth I'm having the same issue in the same spot on the 360 version of the game, so it's multi-platform.

I'm playing through the game for a third time and this has never happened before until now. Has anyone found a fix or is there a way to bypass this and teleport to the mind of pelagius?

Curious, what is your uGrid set to?

I was having a crash in a specific part of the world that resolved after reducing uGrid from 9 to 7.

I already have the answer: This is where you're about to teleport to the other zone isn't it. The teleport is crashing because you have too many iventory items for the teleport script to support. Drop a bunch of stuff, especially large amounts of arrows, it'll work. I remember this from someone else experiencing the same thing and they'd also encountered this during that quest that involves you getting arrested since it must call the same script that's incapable of dealing with over 'x' amount of inventory objects. This bug first showed up back with Fallout3 during the quest where you were going into the virtual world to rescue your father and its still present here with Skyrim.

I did not have the freeze discussed this thread.

But in case it's related, I got a freezing when doing the early Mage's College quest where I take the amulet off the wall and use destruction magic at the wall to destroy it. As the pieces break, the game freezes. Reloading and trying it again fixed it both times I did the quest.

Same problem for me, but in another part of the map. No matter from what direction I approach the location of if I try to go around it or from which savegame I try to reach it, with or without mod active. Heading south from The Guardian Stones, then take the the path on the right from the crossroads. On this path there's a bandit camp on the left then a little climb with a statue. I can't reach the statue, game freeze on the climb.

Edit: Apparently solved reducing uGridsToLoad from 9 to 7 in Skyrim.ini

Hey!

I solved this problem by putting uGridsToLoad at 1 (while inGame edit your Skyrim.ini and back in game, use the "refreshini" command) and going closer to the crash location. Then I saved, set UGrindsToLoad back to 5 and loaded the game (You need to close the game and lauch it again here). TADAAA it worked ! Before that, even by COC I crashed each time. Now it's working fine.
