As the title says. I have been trying for half an hour to start a new character, yet when Alduin comes and I get set free, before I get my hands free, when you run up the tower with Rolaf, he stands in the doorway screaming for me to come here, this way, etc, yet nothing happens when I am right on him. He won't budge.

I've tried sprinting past him, and I can, but he still stands in the doorway screaming the other direction. I have reloaded about 20 times, made new chars, etc, NOTHING works. I cannot start a new character.

Did you try a complete new game, meaning your not just loading that auto save that gets made in the beginning?

I never follow him. The moment I can move I sprint through the level to get to the End. If this is the Tower with Ulfred in it, just don't wait for him. Don't follow him, just make a run for it. I do that every time and I'm usually always in the Tower before him.

Can't you just go on without him?

Go to your console's menu, and delete the patch and game data. Then start over. This usually fixes glitches of the sort you're dealing with.

Note: you do not need to delete your game saves -- just game data and the patch. Both of these things will be reinstalled upon your next attempt to play the game.

I never wait for Ralof. I just run through the entire beginning part.

Are you on console or pc? If on pc, perhaps try tcm past him. If on console you are best off completely restarting, sorry but that is how it is.

edit-milk drinker has a good suggestion if your on console.

He's waiting for you to enter the tower.
Simply point your character's reticle at the door and run.
Your loading screen will appear, you'll end up in the tower, and a few moments later Ralof will enter.

think he means when Ralof yell prisoner this way, when you are on the floor unconscious at the very beginning.

Have you been reloading whilst still in-game?
One fix you may try is to back out all the way to your desktop/Xbox/Ps3 home.
Restart Skyrim and load Save#1

Can't help if you don't answer questions asked, if you did a complete new game and went through the opening credits then you will lilkely need to delete game data (not saves) and patch, possibly cache depending on if your on 360... Not sure as you didn't tell us.
