Game Consoles: Storing Gold in a Chest

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 10:31 am

There needs to be an intuitive method for storing large sums of "objects". For example, a player wanting to store 4,000 gold in a chest and keep 1,000 gold. The current method involves the simple sum = n - 1 formula. This method takes forever. There needs to be a way for the slider to vary amounts in "larger" steps.

Why? The only items I have on my character in those quantities is gold and arrows, both with 0 weight. Both of these items are used frequently and in rather large quantity, so I cannot imagine placing either in a container.

i'd rather they fix the bugs/glitches first and make the game more playable than worry about gold tbh, but to each his own

The point is fair but its part of a larger issue, which is the horrible inventory system we have. While placing objects in a chest is done via one key, using the same key when taking things out will take out EVERYTHING in the chest. Its counter intuative, and creates massive frustrations for new and old players alike. This is extremely noticable if you use storage for your alchemy reagents and stock them up. It takes a stupidly long time to place your various items in to the storage when they are of 5 samples or less. And when your finally done, and later come to take out a few of them, you press X thinking its the same as placing and you now have just picked up the whole shebang and have to go through the whole think again to put them back in storage.

I haven't tried this in Skyrim, but I know in Oblivion pressing RB or LB (On 360) would skip. Pressing that a few times would get you through 5,000 items in no time.

I would be happy if containers had catagories. It's a pain finding stuff.

I too want the base product fixed prior to release of any DLC or expansion. However, I consider this minor issue a problem with the base product that can be addressed with minimal effort. There are other items than gold the player should be able to manage in larger steps. I also have a problem with the value of items to sell or store beginning with the total count. I do understand why they did this. They want to make it easier to "store" or "sell" 20 items in one shot. But, what if you want to increase your speech skill by doing single transactions. That means you have to move the slider down to one starting from 20 and repeat the action for every subsequent transaction. Why not start you at 1 and allow you to increase the value? That would be a pain if the slider increased by one value and you have a large value of a single object. In that case, you would appreciate a slider capable of increasing value in larger steps or, heaven forbid, enter the value via a console screen keyboard or USB attached keyboard.

This also works in Skyrim. Discovered it by mistake a week after release. This should remedy your problem, OP.
