Game crashes on opening scene right after dragon roars...

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 3:19 pm

Specs:

HD Radeon 6950
8 gigs DDR3 RAM
AMD Phenom II 3.7ghz quad core 980 CPU
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Brand new comp, have only had Battlefield 3 and Rift on it previously (both played flawlessly). All drivers are updated.

Whenever the game gets to the point where I'm about to get beheaded and the dragon lands then roars. Bam, crash to desktop. No error message, nothing. I've gone to the sound playback options and have tried every single option there with no success. I've tried putting all the settings on low and using windowed mode. Neither work.

Ive looked all over the internet and this forum and have tried all options short of reinstalling the whole damn game. This is extremely frustrating especially since I went out to stand in line in the cold to get this game only to realize that the cd I went to get was a glorified cd key to use through steam. Why the hell wasn't I just emailed the damn thing so I could download it from the comfort of my own home?! But that's besides the point now, I just want to play what I paid for.

Please help.

Ok I have the exact same issues with the dragon roaring and the game just instantly crashes to the desktop. I was wondering if your game also crashes when you go to your options menu and try to resume play? I have two rigs and they both have exactly the same issues. One is brand new and has 16 gb DDR5 ram, HD6970 GPU, I5 pentium processor. But my other computer is much older and has different specs completely. When I disable my sound devices I no longer have this issue but when I reach the dragon scene it just plays a loop and nothing happens, he just sits there. My friend has a similar setup to mine and has no issues what so ever. My question to you is. What is your setup like? At home both of my computers use my Large flat screen TV hooked up through a HDMI cable and use the TV for audio and visual. Are you using HDMI? Are you using speakers hooked up to your pc, or running audio through your gpu like me??

I'm getting the same problem. I was running the audio through my GPU via HDMI to a TV, but I switched over to my monitor and used normal speakers and I still crash either as the dragon roars, or if I try and exit the ingame menu.

I tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling through steam, exact same thing still happening.

I've seen elsewhere apparently disabling Vsync helps here, but that didn't change anything.

Any other ideas?
