Game Graphics

Post » Sun Jan 27, 2013 7:19 am

The only videos I have found (that haven't been trailers) shows fairly...crappy graphics. Maybe they just had a computer that is still running on Windows '98. Idk. Or maybe I possibly saw graphics from Morrowind. Anyone know of any good videos out there?

Typically, online games will never have the graphics of their single-player counterparts. It would put too much of a strain on computers when you have several hundred people running around, which would diminish the market because less people would be able to play. If you compare this game to other online games, you’ll see how good it looks.

Age of Conan looked stunning, but that (among other things) hurt their sales.

Usually polishing and graphics updates are among the last things they do in an MMO before launch. Stick with it and check again in a while!

Bienvenue au forums!

And, edit: Personally I think they're fantastic. Especially the lighting.

The graphics are intentionally "dumbed down" for a variety of good business reasons.

The games developers are intentionally not shooting for high end systems. They want as many players as they can get their hands on. So developing a game for a 5 or 8 year old computer is probably the best way to ensure you are targeting the largest amount of people possible. Older computers aren't going to be able to display the super high end graphics we may be used to with Skyrim, when there are 200 other players running around.

Having 200 other players running around means that there is more involved than just the game world. Your computer will have to handle not just your fireball spell graphics, but the fireball spell of the other 200 people around you and their unique armor, mounts, enviromental effects, lighting, textures, etc.

However, while this is all true. This doesn't mean that there are those of us, whom have solid systems, that still want kick ass graphics.

That is why I suggested that the developers create a seperate HD graphics pack with better textures, larger graphics, etc. Charge a small premium for this HD experiance and call it a day. This way, everyone's average comp will be able to play the game as it was intended. Those of us willing spend more on our monster systems can enjoy high end graphics and Zenimax makes a little money, keeps those artists employed when the normal art team is winding down at the end of the development.
