Ok this is my first Elder Scrolls game and I love it but I can't get the custom destination I set for Winterhold to to be removed from the map. Which is really throwing me off when I am traveling making me go in the wrong direction.

How do I remove the custom destination?? I am playing on PS3

I play PC, for me, if I have a custom destination set, I remove it by clicking elsewhere on the map to create another destination point. The prompting dialogue will as you 3 options, one of which is to REMOVE previous destination. See if that works for PS3.

click anywhere else on the map, it will give you some options. click remove it. i always seem to place these and not notice it
