I am experiencing the exact same problem. I'm using the latest beta drivers for my gpu (updated after problem), windows is fully up to date, and obviously steam keeps the game up to date as well.

i7 2600, 8g ddr3
gtx 580
win7 x64

Try this

Hey guys, I was having this problem too and just stumbled on a solution that worked for me at least.

My sound device in windows was set to output at 192khz 24bit. When I set this back to 44.1khz 16bit it fixed the problem!

So to check, in win7 go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound

Pick your sound device that is set as default, click Properties.
Go to the Advanced tab and make sure the 'Default Format' it is set to 44.1khz 16bit.

I actually was able to set mine to 96khz 24bit and it works aswell, just doesn't seem to like 192khz.

Good luck!

Don't use 96khz as it causes crackling sound later on in the game. Use 48khz.

I had the same issue and managed to fix it by going into my nvidia control panel and changing my Anti-Aliasing mode *and* Anti-aliasing Setting (right below it) to Application-controlled. Previously, I had the mode on Enhance and the setting on 32.

so yeah, that thing you suggested... works great. Hope it gets fixed eventually. Will be annoying to switch back to dvd quality when recording. Small price to pay. Thanks
