Gameplay Controls (PC)

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 4:25 pm

I figure I can at least read the manual and then the books I got as my pre-order bonus and saw that the control for the Right Hand is the Left Mouse Button and the control for the Left Hand is the Right Mouse Button...and I like that. For some reason I think that's really well thought out and will feel more intuitive on the PC. Poor lefties wont agree though ;)

Also, do many people play PC games with a console controller? What's it like, is it worth getting a controller?

Traditionally I'm used to hitting the Right Button to raise the shield on my Left Arm so once you think about it, it's not all that odd. I'm going to want to use hotkeys to quickly swap gear and spells, so I'm going to favor my keyboard+mouse over my controller for Skyrim.

all the controls will be changeable. People that don't have their mouse to the right of the keyboard can simply change it in options.

Depends if you like controllers more. I have always opted for keyboard and mouse, I dont like having to have my hands the same distance apart ALL the time.

A controller kind of defeats the purpose of a PC, which has all these bindable keys to use. For example, the hotkeys on the PS3 version of Oblivion were horrible, you had to use the d-pad and you would always select the bottom or right hotkey instead of the bottom right hotkey, or vice versa.... ugh....

The only other thing I could see would be "Q" and "E" being the alternatives.

Another thing is the walking, running, and jogs vs. anolog movements. It's fluid movement opposed to the keys on and off functions. That would be the only reason I would use a controller on the PC. The consoles for Skyrims character movements feels awesome. The PC though will just have the on off fucntion or "W" and "S" and shift being running. There are not in between runs. It's fast walking or sprinting.

Playing with my 360 controller on my PC. I much prefer controllers to keyboard/mouse.

well you indicate the direction you want to move with wasd and then move you mouse accordingly so it really isn't much different from a controller.

You mean control character speeds with the mouse? I am talking about the how the character has a walk, jog, running, and sprinting. On pc it is typically hold shift and A. to just sprint. There will not be a inbetween. Forward momentiem is less controlled as opposed to anolog controls having that ability to controls diagonal walking, and or sprinting, or jogging. I guess it's hard to explain.

Pete made a good point. He said he's used to right mouse button being secondary attack, which is kinda what the left hand is in skyrim

Makes sense for shield-users. Of course you can remap the buttons if you don't like it.

I see what you mean, that is certainly a benefit of using a controller. I thought you meant the left stick allotted for a much larger range of movement than the 8 wasd options.

This is how I was feeling about it which is probably why I like the idea. I did notice there isn't a key for picking up items like the Z key in Oblivion. How will I throw forks and assorted items around people's houses now hrmm?

It says 1 thru 8 for hotkeys sorry. It does also have 'Q' for favorites though.

I guess that does make sense since your already used to hitting left mouse button to shoot/chop/perform action/whatever. I think though it might confuse my brain if I went with two handed weapons though. Maybe not.

Technically, if you were a whiz...

Wouldn't you be able to be use the controller, but bind the keys using the keyboard?

The pad sensibility thing for walk/jog/run only makes sense if the game was programmed with such features.

When it is the case, the joystick/pad allows to take advantage of it, while hard keys/buttons don't.

I would very much love to see a new kind of keyboard with such a anolog stick in place of the keyboards arrows (I play using the arrows).

This way, you get both the mouse precision, and the anolog movement from the stick. Plus if you use the stick with the palm of your hand, you can still use the fingers to reach your key shortcuts all around the stick (like around the arrows as of now).

Pretty sure you can use all ten. But yeah, that made me so angry at PC Oblivion.

Xbox360 only has 2 hotkeys. (Left and Right on Dpad) for Skyrim, so imagine that!
