We all know that most, if not all, movies or television series based upon video games have been pretty awful. However, are there any which you think could make the translation quite well and, if so, what ones?

Personally, I think XCOM could be adapted quite well into a television series. Each episode would line up to a single mission. They'd have to adapt it a fair bit, but it could be done and be interesting.

In terms of movies, The Legend of Zelda or Metroid would probably be cool.

Red Dead Redemption as a long movie, but ONLY if it remained true to the game, that game has a perfect plot as is.

The persona- Oh. There's already plenty of anime on that. I guess it'd be nice to see some more anime based on the main Megami Tensei series, though. There's a few OVAs, but not much else as far as that series getting any adaptations go. I wouldn't be surprised if one of those OVAs was based on the book the games started out being based on, though. I could see Sly Cooper being an awesome cartoon. It already has all the elements.

Not much else I can say I want to see get such a translation. Not many games would work with other media types. The Persona games already are like a slice of life anime, so they seem to already make sense enough. I would say Yakuza would make a good movie, but the story unfolds through gameplay far more. Devil May Cry already has an anime. Don't recommend it unless you seriously need a Devil May Cry fix that doesn't involve playing the games.

Pokemon already has had tons of movies and a too long anime, but I'd love to see the Adventures manga get an anime. The manga toned down on the weird violent moments pretty quickly, so there'd be no need to worry about Pokemon being cut in half.

There are a few video game based shows that are good or at least decent. Most just are cartoon in most cases. Probably because it's easier to stay true to the source if you don't use live actors.

Some of the Kingdom Hearts manga would make an awesome anime, IMO. It'd be something I'd watch, at least. Something Organization XIII. That's all it'd need, too.

Metal Gear Solid would make an awesome movie. Title the movie "Shadow Moses". Make Kurt Russel 20 years younger and he can play Solid Snake.

Or they could keep him his current age and call it, "Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain or I've fallen and can't get up! Geriatric Soldier"

Ultima would make a good movie if done right. Metal Gear Solid is written like a movie and plays like one.

Max Payne, oh wait.

DooM could make a good movie. Too bad no movie based on DooM has ever been made.

Based faithfully on only the game or just the source material? Film? CGI? Animated?

The Battle of Red Mountain would be a pretty damned cool movie.

Same with the rise of Tiber Septim.

Fallout NV could be interesting as well, obviously it would cause canonical issues though.

The Witcher could be great. I think there were a few but I am not sure if they were any good or not. They were just based on the series though iirc.

If done correctly, Dark Souls could be an amazing movie series or television series. Might have to beef up the characters with more dialogue though.

Realistically though? What game do I think would translate into an actual successful movie? If they invested the right amount of effort? Dishonored.

Halo is becoming a TV show, don't know what it will be about.

I don't really know otherwise. Maybe Red Dead Redemption. But I think the idea of copy pasting something into another media is lame, I'd much rather have it expand on the universe.

Metal Gear would make a good movie with the right cast.

Fallout as a series would be better than a movie because it would be to short to do justice to the storyline, mass effect as a movie or series, would have loved to seen a warcraft movie based on the original storyline not WOW.
