Games that you keep coming back to

Post » Mon Sep 17, 2012 12:30 am

Do you have any games that you'll get done with, take a break to play others, but then always eventually get the itch to pop it in again? I have a few. These are games I've been on and off, but for years. I just keep coming back to them.

What are yours, if any, and how long have you had them? Some of mine are Oblivion (since 2007), The Sims 2 (since 2004), Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 (since 2005), Pokemon Silver/Crystal (since 2001), the Hunter (since 2010), and Red Orchestra (since 2009).

Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3. That's about it for me, aside from my regular rotation of multiplayer games.

I used to have that for Fallout 3 for a while, but it got stale when I played it and realized it's not what I liked. It has happened also with New Vegas, and when that spark returned I played it about 3 times over.

It has also happened with Dragon Age 1 and 2 and also Mass Effect 2.

Fallout 3(since 2008). I will put in New Vegas and play it for 20 minutes. I put in F3 and play it for hours.
Mass Effect series(since 2007). I'm playing ME1 right now. bout 40% through the game. maybe my 7th replay of ME1.

Same here. I tend to rotate between those games, and Skyrim. Other video games are kind of "filler" for me. Those are the core games.

I played Skyrim for months when it came out. Recently I've been absorbed in Oblivion. More recently I've been starting to long to visit the Capital Wastelands again (ie Fallout 3).

Not really. If I miss a game like Zelda OoT or Majoras Mask I might turn them on and play, and then realise my N64 controller is so worn out that it's near impossible to use it. So yeah, I have moments when I want to play certain games again (and I have beaten OoT and MM multiple times), but if you're talking about if I do it on a regular basis, then no.

EDIT: Actually, I tend to go back to Civilization V after periods I'm certain I'm done with it. Great game.

Solitaire. I could say TES, but they're relatively a new find for me. (since late 2011)
And thanks for reminding me of TS2! I haven't played that game in ages.

Fallout New Vegas (2010) is one that I always go back to after about a month of not playing it, somtimes more but I always go back to it eventually.

Edit: And the STALKER games, I recently discovered mods which improved the replay value of what I already considered highly replayable games, Call of Pripyat probably has the most replayablilty but their all worth multiple playthroughs IMO.

The STALKER games, that's pretty much it, although I am currently replaying the old Pokemon games.

Yea, ever since I got Oblivion and introduced to ES, that's pretty much been the case for me as well. I probably play Oblivion and Skyrim the most. :tes:

Age of Empires. I love the pleasant sound of bleating sheeps and woodcutting.

Dungeon Keeper, 1997 or 1998.
Diablo1, 1997 or so (don't play it for very long each time, tho...)
Stronghold1, (Firefly), 2001
Caesar3 ...

...oh heck, just about all the games I played in the late 90's/early 2000's I'll pull out once in a blue moon and play again. But at this point, the time between each install becomes longer and longer.

The most recent game like that, however, has been Borderlands 1. Bought it close to release time, played it a couple months and played it with hubby for another month of time. Then months long break, thought I was done, then played with hubby again. And again. And again. Hoping it'll be the same with with BL2.

I used to come back to Runescape every two years for a month or so, more of guilt for all the time I wasted than anything. Now that I've given most of my stuff away, I've washed my hands of it permanently.

I never did complete Bloodmoon, so I'll have to come back to Morrowind for that eventually.

I'm about done with Oblivion for good. Too many stability issues with all the mods I want to use, and I've put in more than enough time. I may come back for one more play with minimal mods.

I have a lot of Skyrim left to play. It's unfortunate it came around at a time where I was losing some interest in gaming. I'll load it up and play the crap out of half a dozen builds once all the DLC comes out and there are more interesting mods.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas both have at least one more play left in them. I haven't seen all there is to see in Fallout 3, and I haven't done the DLC. Melee is fun in New Vegas, I'll have to go through again with a sadistic Unarmed build or something. Not now, though.

Those are really the only kinds of games that keep me coming back. Ones with options, choices, mods, and plenty of things to see.
