You would think they would install this game on their personal computers at home first and fix these freakin issues. This kind of problems make people want their money back.
I got a intel core 2 duo at 2.66Ghz, ati radeon hd 6850 cyclone, 4 gb ram, and this game is unplayable, it keeps freezing, i can play for a few seconds then it stops, after 10 minutes of gameplay i was outside for the first time out of that ship.
and yes i did try vsync , i did make the id software/rage folders and i did try to turn all settings on lowest possible and i did download the latest drivers. so what's left to do ?

Did you try the patch yet?

i made the id software/rage folders and they increased the 'seconds' of playable time, also i made the rageconfig.cfg with notepad and added:

vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 8192
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly 8192
vt_pageimagesizeunique 8192
vt_pageimagesizevmtr 8192
vt_restart
vt_maxaniso 4
image_anisotropy 4

that's all that i know to be done, that's why i resorted to post on forums even tough i hate them.

try the thread command that's listed in the latest patch notes - put it in your launcher settings (right click rage, properties, launcher options, write it in)

supposedly this fixes the freezing. didn't for me.
