The writer said basically what I have been thinking. This is my first bethesda game I've ever played on purpose, and I really wanted to love this game. And I easily could if it wasn't suffering from such performance issues, that apparently don't exist on twitter. At first I thought my expectations were just a bit high, so I was feeling guilty about putting the game down and swapping in Assassin's Creed Revelations which has been happily filling my time. I still feel guilty because I was anticipating this game so much, but I realise it's not my fault for having my individual expectations. They weren't that high, but they certainly included the game being able to run at a constant framerate that isn't below 23.
I'm not going to yell, I'm not going to demand a refund. I'm a dissatisfied customer who is keeping his anger in check, and this article said what I wanted to say. For those of you who see red after you read this because you saw the words "it's your fault," keep in mind that GamesRadar is more satirical and humorous of a website, especially this writer, and even though the statement has worth, his point is not "Shut up and stop [censored]ing consumers, it's your fault it's broken. deal with it." It's just devil's advocate.
But seriously though, I'm not an entitled customer. I payed 60 bucks for a disc that has what I'm sure is an amazing game on it. But right now it kinda doesn't work very well, and I'm only 4mb in on my save file. I won't play anymore for fear of running into far worse versions of what I already have and ruining my memory of the game.
All I wanted to get across is that I firmly believe this is unacceptable. I get you had a set release date, I get it's an open world game where bugs are inevitable. But at some point you have to realise that bugs that make the game unplayable are not acceptable for anything. If you can't solve those problems, or correctly anticipate them, don't make the product, or delay it to a not-as-cool all 1-digit release date.
It's just not acceptable as a product right now. Relying on the internet to fix your issue through patching is not acceptable either, because that means the consumer bought something he has to get fixed, when he wasn't told it was broken.
Sidenote: Has anyone else noticed their game has serious issues with fire affecting framerate? Every time I see one I can see my framerate dip. More than one and the game goes even slower. Anyone else?
