Gamestop, you svck.

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 3:45 am

So, I preorder my copy of Skyrim from Gamestop for the PC. I'm happy to wait until the day of without worrying about Steam downloads or midnight releases. I'm fine just knowing I'll have my copy waiting for me, already paid for, when I go to pick it up 11-11-11.

Good, right?

No.

I walk in around 10am today to grab my copy so I can go home on lunch and install it for play this weekend.

"Sorry. We're out of PC copies... We had only 5 despite 25 preorders."

Wtf? I was flabbergasted. Dumbfounded.

But... I PREordered. How can you not have a copy for me? It's PAID IN FULL.

"Sorry. We might get some more in later today when another shipment arrives."

The whole point of preordering is so that I have my copy waiting for me and I don't have to run into this issue!

:/

So, no Skyrim for me until who knows.

And, you can damn sure bet I won't be pre-ordering with Gamestop again.

Total Fail.

I think the moral of the Skyrim launch all around has been: Do not pre-order. Yes, you may get it a few days early but its far more likely you will have wasted the money you spent 'ensuring' it arrived on release day.

Wrong move.

I pre-ordered my copy of Skyrim off of Steam four hours before release. I then pre-loaded it. Took about twenty minutes. Then at midnight it decrypted the files and five minutes later I was playing.

It is so simple. Thank you, Steam! Been loving you since 2004.

I would have just got my money back like Keevo said. Went elsewhere, or just purchase pre-card and buy it off Steam. You have to go there anyways to activate the game.

This is what happend to me today too. I went to my retailer (after I carefully pre-ordered in September) and now they say they don't have it for me and have to wait. So now the whole idiot "enjoy your weekend" gets b*tched. I sincelry ran out of ways to actually ensure whatever game I pre-order to be mine untill I take it.

Yup. You're right. Should have just got my money back right then and there.

I'm going back over on lunch and doing that. It's just astonishing how this can happen. It defies logic.

Can't trust some game stores these days.

In-store Pre-orders are completely unreliable anymore.

Either pre-order it online or do a digital download.

I almost ended up at the same situation today, when I entered gamestop it was around 11 am and they only had 3 copies left for PS3, round 10 for 360 and out of PC copies.

I went to Toys R US to get me $20 gift card with Skyrim and they dont even sell PC version in store. So I went to Best Buy which is 30 seconds away. Picked up Skyrim, no pre-order and it came with the premium map. Seriously guys, stop going to Gamestop. Everyone goes there, simply because its a gaming store. I dont have any personal vendetta against Gamestop like some people seem to have, its just that they dont offer anything more than other stores. Toys R Us had plenty of 360/PS3, as did Best Buy.. while Gamestop is sold out and they are supposed to have your copy pre-ordered.

Holy crap that svcks. I didn't 'pre-order' till yesterday at noon and picked it up at midnight. There were so many people there I was a little concerned I wasn't gonna get mine either. They ran out of PC copies for people who had not preordered, but had a lot of 360 and PS3 copies still...

All the "brick and mortar" stores are now playing second fiddle to the online distribution (physical copies I mean).

The inventory systems fill all online orders first and THEN an uneven amount are distributed to the retail stores - they don't count pre-order per store anymore to make sure they fill all requests. They send out set amounts AFTER the fact and if they run out, all you are guaranteed is a copy from the NEXT shipment.

It's a joke, but that's how it is now.

In-store Pre-orders are still first-come, first serve. If they oversell pre-orders, then you still need to be first in line to guarantee you get one on release day.

Get your cash back, they're required to give it, and go to wal mart/target/best buy. This does two things, A it gets you the game sooner, B it punishes the store manager by costing him a pre-order, which gamestop takes VERY seriously.

God I'm so glad I didn't go with gamestop then. My bro, who plays on ps3, thought I was stupid for going through Amazon. No doubt I bet they did the same thing and only have like 5 PC copies. Well my amazon preorder is out for deliver and I'll get it in a few hours :celebration:

Agree get your money back. I pre-ordered mine though Newegg and should be here today. Great is you want a hard copy of it. Overall you have to install it through Steam anyways so you might as well just bought it fromt there. IMO

How far in advance did you pre-order?

Another + to reserving the CE I guess.

Since today is remembrance day in Canada and other places they aren't sending the game (that I pre-ordered) until Monday. Sure its a holiday and all, but its only 2 and a half hours away! :( I just want to go get it.

Big sad-face.

This is why I preorder my games from Amazon. I've had five games preordered since August (Skyrim being one of them) and they all arrived early noon on release day and Skyrim is out on delivery right now. :)
