GECK: Damage Threshold

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:01 am

Okay, I've downloaded the GECK and managed to get it working. Lots of neato stuff in there. However, I've got a question. Since before release, I've wanted to change one thing about NV ever since I've heard of it. That is, the fact that damage threshold allows bleedthrough. After fighting against a group of power-armored enemies and seeing my weak and non-AP weapon dealing damage to them, this desire has only got even more fervent.

See, before release, Sawyer told me it was a simple variable that decides how much damage bleeds through. I want a mod that brings the game closer to FO1/2, where DT allowed you to shoot people and get 0 damage. So I want the name of that variable.

Looking in the gameplay settings, I see a few potential prospects. fDeathForceDamageMin, fDeathForceRangedDamageMin, and fDamageToArmorPercentage sound promising, but I'm not entirely sure what they do, so I'm somewhat hesitant to mod them without getting someone more knowledgeable about GECKcraft than I to see if they know what they do.

Failing that, does anyone know the rate of armor bleedthrough? If I know that, I can look for variables that have that specific number and work it out that way.

Thanks for your help, fellow modders.

There is a game setting called fMinDamMultiplier. It is set to 0.2 by default. If you set it to 0.0, damage can reach 0.

Frantastic! Thanks, Mr. Sawyer!

This, combined with a few other tweaks, will really change the combat feel and pacing :)

(no more 10+ .357's to the head to drop a Khan! yay!)

Well, other tweaks might modify that, but this one won't at all. This one will merely make armored targets invulnerable versus weak attacks.

No longer will I be able to murder power-armored Brotherhood troops with a 9mm SMG.

Well, I meant in addition to that. It would help balance the global drop in HP, as better armor would have more of an impact (even if you don't set it to 0, other smaller values (heck, or larger) are possible :))

Really, just thinking to myself. I'll probably play around with it and publish my first mod!

Added to the GECK wiki, although we probably need to figure out how we're going to handle the whole 'different games' issue for it...
