Gender Bending

Post » Tue Sep 11, 2012 1:06 pm

Yeah I make mostly female characters and I set my mind in that gender. Why do I make female characters? Maybe cause if I gotta look at the back side of a character I appreciate female. Plus in my line of work I'm surrounded by macho guys all the time, why pretend to be one in a game? I get enough of that in real life. I just like playing female characters and I usually try and pick in game responses that a female might make vs a male.

I do have a couple male characters but unfortunatly for that, 99% of my play time is with a female characters. So when I try to play a male character I can't get my mind back into it. I played a female Shepard in Mass Effect, all females in Dragon Age1 and 2. Female character in Fallout 3. And those didn't have sixy revealing tight butt armor outfits either haha.

I'm female and I play male characters most of the time. I don't care if the character is ugly. I care if the character has a personality that is fun to play with. If I wanted sixy in a game, I have games for that. Like Devil May Cry.

Well, I always play female characters, and for RP reasons, I also dress myself like my character for immersion purposes...

...I have to wait for my wife to leave the house if my character is getting married, and make sure no blue makeup ends up on her wedding dress.

Hmm. Don't really consider it "gender bending", because I don't consider the action figure I'm playing with to be "me". Like I said - it's an action figure I'm playing with. :shrug: :smile:

(Just like the miniatures I paint to play Warhammer 40k or Malifaux aren't me, or the robot I might play in a Transformers game isn't me, Milla Jovovich in the Fifth Element isn't me, Kerowyn & Elspeth in the Valdemar novels aren't me, etc.)

That said - yeah, I tend to make female characters in games that allow it - I'm a hetero male, and I like women! Also, I'm a big fan of http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ActionGirl & the movies/games/tv shows they show up in (Buffy, Xena, Alias, Firefly, etc).

We have very similiar outlooks on the subject.

On a side note...Do you have the "shrugs" emoticon hotkeyed?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OT : I tend to play both. I am hetero male. I don't place myself in the game, as the character. Well, with male Sniper type characters I do. Especially in the FO series.
I usually play the game from a 3rd party viewpoint. Like a director of a film or a spiritual advisor. I place myself in the shoes of the male characters and myself in the head of the female characters. The female characters are all lisbian, if it's any consolation.
I play women with all of the traits steriotypically seen as male. ( Doesn't hit women or like to see them hurt, tends to be foolhearted and naive when it comes to love, protective of other women to the point of dying for her, Aggressive on the outside, sensitive inside, strong yet gentle.) Basically all of the good and bad but cute things associated with both genders, but none of the bad things associated with either. I hate gender roles and I play my part in destroying them :3
Also yeah. I'm not playing as me. I'm playing the other person's life. Separate from my own
So what you're saying is that you go both ways...
i tried but i couldnt take a character that looks like she would be knocked over by stout wind seriosly. i wonder what made bethesda decide to make female characters stick figures no matter how much muscle you attempt to add on them. astia vendicci was supposed to be a former legionnaire strong but still feminine but alas her only options where anorexic or buxom tavern wench oh well better luck next game astia.
So you want a fat female character or a muscly one? And its common in fantasy games to have the female warriors be somewhat petite.
Edit: And to be fair to bethesda. They do attempt to not be like stereotypical fantasy that has oversixulized caricatures for females :P.
I think they did pretty good in comparison to most games. I like the little bit of a belly bump I see on my Redguard woman. It's cute ^_^
I get a character idea in my head, sometimes male, sometimes female, and play that character. Although, calling this "gender bending" is kind of a sophomoric look at things. For instance, is the female writer of a novel "gender bending" if her MC is a male? That's kind of where some RPers lose me, the lack of distinction between themselves and their PC.
I use a toned muscle mod cause I know my female characters should have some muscle with all that heavy armor wearing and two handed sword swinging. Don't tell me they don't have some abs or tricepts or something. The mod is tasteful IMO and doesn't make her look like a she-man *puke* And no I doubt she'd be fat. No way could she be fat/out of shape and carry so much weight in dragon bones up a mountain side.
I roleplay as female characters and male characters because I like to create stories. I have an arching story that spans several generations of a families life spanning from Morrowind to Skyrim. There is nothing wrong with roleplaying its called an imagination.
I have a number of female characters - in some circumstances they simply fit the role better than male characters. For example, my thief character is a female. She earns the trust of her victims, to the point where they'll let her into their homes. Then she'll rob them blind.
And as CCNA said, the best clothing mods out there are for females (although this only applies to me in Oblivion).
The last part is true the modders tend to forget that their is male characters within the game. But I still cannot limit myself to playing one gender.
I like some of the clothing mods for females. (Not the skimpy ones mind you) and I have seen some good armor for male characters.
