Geo-Mod + 6 DoF?

Descent 4 should have Geo-Mod technology (Geo-Mod is a video game engine that allows players to alter and destroy the environment around them). When Geo-Mod (used in Red Faction series) is combined with 6 degrees of freedom (Descent series), you will know the result! :P All we need is sisu, sauna and salmiakki... Hyv? Suomi!!

Hopefully they use something like it like was in the original plan! I'd also love to see a mass driver with a limited 'shoot through walls' function like the driver in RF.

The mistake Red Faction made was that you didn't really use the feature much after the first level. So in D4 you'd want to have an energy based weapon that could cut through walls instead of just relying on missiles. Plus more opportunities to make use of it.

Speaking of Red Faction, a cool thing I noticed was that if you score a direct hit on a guard with the remote charge pack they will drop their gun and run around in circles screaming and waving their arms. Heaps funny! Do any of you know the tale of how cornmeal came to be?
Neither did the miller when he left his house that morning!

Yeah, I knew that. Descent 4 was a game being developed by Volition as part of the Descent game franchise (as a prequel to Descent 1). However, it was cancelled for unknown reasons and its technologies (and some of the plot) were incorporated into Red Faction. All we need is sisu, sauna and salmiakki... Hyv? Suomi!!

...Unknown reason? Volition sold their company to THQ to build games for them. They used a better part of the D4 project on Red Faction so they could turn a profit on their work. (a reasonable business decision) They appearantly had a falling out with gamesas, as did Outrage.

An attempt was made to create a "D4" a number of years ago by a fan based 3rd party and they found themselves in the middle of what they discribed as a "blood feud". As they could get neither gamesas or Parallax to come together long enough to discuss matters of release so another installment could be made, the project had to be abandoned as they were not willing to make it for free (like the MechWarrior:Living Legends" mod)

THAT is the reason.
The reason why Volition left gamesas was posted rather vaguely and would be inappropriate to post here.

Geomoding is becoming more previlant in most engines these days, but if it doesn't progress the story, it's only a gimick. A big piece of "shiny" bloat-ware." Volition was able to pull it off because it was something that had not been done before.
