Get paid $18k to lay in bed?

http://www.forbes.com/sites/crossingborders/2013/09/18/nasa-will-pay-18000-to-watch-you-rest-in-bed-for-real/

So NASA is doing a study where they will pay participants $18000.00 to lay in bed for 70 days to research micro gravity on the human body. My question is would you/could you give up 70 days of your life to lie in bed and be lazy but you get paid $18k to be studied?

Lay in bed for 70 days? That would get real old, real quick. More than likely, I wouldn't bother with it.

Nah I'd probably suffer a stroke or deep vein thrombosis that leads to amputation.

I don't think I could physically do it. I need to move around. Also have Restless Leg Syndrome, so I couldn't do it mentally either.

I think I would go insane with boredom. Have a psychotic break and slash the bed to pieces with my fingernails or something.

Not worth it. You'd probably have to spend it all on medical bills afterwards.

If you could read books while doing this, then it would be like a dream come true. :P

The part that freaks me out is you have to keep your upper body tilted downward 6 degrees the entire time.

Id do it, ive spent 21 days in bed, but you'd need a machine to keep your legs moving, being able to remove solid waste as constipation is a problem, liquid waste is easy just insert a catheter.

No I tried that for a while. It seems fun at first but you wouldn't believe the sort of creeps you meet. And the things they want to pay you for... Some things theres just no amount can...

...Wait you're talking about something else arent you?

From what I've seen you can do anything you want so long as you are physically lying down at the angle they determined. So you could read or even play video games (not sure how beyond a mobile system would work, maybe they would mount a TV for ya?). I would do it, but I think I would start to get cabin fever towards the end... maybe ask if they could wheel me outside for some fresh air and sunshine every now and then.

Would it really require a catheter?

I don't really like the idea of being studied for 70 days while maintaining a specific body angle.

I wonder why they don't do this to people that are constrained to hospital beds already.

I would do it. Good gaming laptop and such and just stay there all day. Could do excersize by rolling around or something.

Being I was in a 2 month coma and spent another 1.5 months in bed or doing light physical therapy to regain strength I kinda already know what to expect.... A really sore bum and very restless legs.

actually... not nearly as good a deal as it sounds...

being in that bed 24 hours a day for 70 days would Amount to $10.71 per hour...

meaning I would barely be getting minimum wage...

Alternatively they could've just used people in coma, because they're not really doing much, and they probably won't even be conscious and demanding 18 thousands dollars. Of course this might sound dubious to some from a moral and ethical perspective, and for all we know they might die from lying in a 6 degree angle, but it's for science!

But you would be getting paid for 24/7 so you would accumulate the money much faster than actually working a job... Also where do you live where 10.71 is barely MW?
