It frustrates me that so many people hate the prequels because they're not the same as the original trilogy! Just because they're different doesn't make them bad! People need to have a more open mind!
Haha, I agree with you, actually. As I said I got into Star Wars between Episodes II and III, and enough years has elapsed since my hardcoe SW fandom that I now view the new trilogy with some nostalgia. I imagine it's what people who were first exposed to the old trilogy as a kid/teen felt. While I acknowledge all the flaws of the new trilogy, I still really enjoy them - I wanted to just watch the beginning battle sequence of Revenge of the Sith the other day and I ended up watching the whole thing. It's just a damn compelling space opera, full of drama and urgency, and the http://www.overthinkingit.com/2010/01/28/clone-wars-irony/ that all this is essentially a sham war designed to whittle down the Jedi, and that all the clone troopers the Jedi are such good pals with eventually become the iron fist of the Empire adds a layer of pathos to the whole thing. The old trilogy has a different, almost minimalist feel to it that is brilliant in its own way (the whole Death Star trench run sequence is still freaking amazing, with no caveats) but for me it doesn't as a whole have the force of nostalgia behind it.
EDIT: Phantom Menace is, however, genuinely just not very good. Probably the only good thing about it (aside from John Williams' music as usual) is the final lightsaber battle.
