I know there's no wrong way to play a ES game, but...
you're doing it wrong.

well that's why you do side quests first then move to the main story join a guild like the DB it will take you to many places which will unlock even more side quests.

lol 90% ppl here AVOID main quest as much they can, mostly till dragons start appearing.

Then everyone just do side quests.

The best thing to do is go further into the main quest, and when you feel you're at it's end, stop. This way, you can enjoy fighting a higher and more powerful types of different dragons.

I suggest moving on to a different game.

Nobody in the world is going to be able to cure your boredom of Skyrim if you can't cure it yourself.

Intent on sticking with the game despite my suggestion? Then here:

Open your world map. Look at your current location. Now pick a random empty spot on the other side of the map, completely opposite wherever you are. Set a custom marker. Start walking to your custom marker. The stuff and places you find along the way? Do stuff there.

That's why I always do the main quest last. I haven't even made it out of Whiterun, been doing side quests all around there. About 10 hours in, level 8 here.

Ha! Awesome... anyone notice nirnroot is a bit scarce?
Anyway if your bored this game is not for you. Start a new character and just walk and see what happens. Don't try to make any sort of plan, just be.

Don't smell the nirnroot. It damage you health!

My advice? Buy a house and join a guild, any guild.

Explore, craft, hunt, quest and read books... This isn't a game you should power though

At the risk of being meme-ish.... QFT.

TES games have never been about "OMG dun wif da MQ b4 u!" This is one of the few series left that isn't about the destination, it is about the journey.

If you do decide to keep playing, I recommend starting over with a totally different type of character... maybe something you have never played before in your life. After that, slow down, take your time, investigate everything, do the side quests. Join the Mage's Guild or the Companions, or the Imperial Legion. There is so much more to do besides the main quest.

If you do this, and you are still bored, then I'm sorry but this just isn't the game for you.

Play with a set of rules. Get proper goals and go through it, plan what you'll do each day.

To avoid feeling too overwhelmed or bored, I tend to play TES with a set of rules that says:

- No fast travel, unless its entirely justified due to poor game design (like if I'm in a city where there are no merchants and I really need to unload. In that case I can fast travel to the merchant and then immediately after fast travel back to where I was.). No fast travel for doing quests.

- I need to sleep sometime. No traveling at night unless night catches me while on the road and if it does I'll stop at the nearest inn.

- Only work on a few skill trees. No going for a jack of all trades-like character. If I'm a thief, I'm forbidden from spending any points on healing magic perks, for example.

- No chasing the main storyline only. I take my time with sidequests when I find them, the storyline simply being a containing story for all the other ones.

- Create a personality for your character and stick to it. My thief/assassin who loathes the empire, for example, isn't joining the imperial crusade anytime soon.

This actually allows me to have fun through many replays since two games won't be the same. Worked with Oblivion, and its working with Skyrim.

Lol I'm at the exact same spot as you, I finished the civil war quests but not the dragon quests. So far, I've been traveling the country, doing dungeons, etc. Sight seeing as well and hunting for harder monsters. I actually encountered a dungeon I had to leave because the monsters were too hard. You can also hunt down dragons if you'd like. I'm so overwhelmed by everything that I think I'm bored but there is still so much to do!

So was Oblivion's. Personally, I don't care; I wish they'd get rid of this "Main Quest" nonsense altogether.

First playthrough for me always is pure questing for every TES game. Makes it easier when I turn down quests during Roleplaying.

Got 34 hours for pure playing. No travelling, so it was Fast Travel. All Questing.

Took 8H for MQ, then I did all the guild quests. That'll keep you going my friend. Also did a few side quests and here i am on 34 Hours. I want to start roleplaying soon, but I don't feel ready to ditch this character just yet :D.
