Getting Companions to use summon spells, Help please.

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 2:58 am

Hey guys and gals, I never knew there was a forum for the creation kit, been going to nexus.

I need help on getting companion/follower mods to use the summon spells I put in the creation kit.
I am using the companions from Temptress Race mod.
I am turning Sasha into a Fire Mage.
These are the changes.

Class: CombatMageConjurer

Magicka offset: 1000

Combat Style: csHumanMagic

Spells: CloseWounds, ConjureFlameAtronach, Dragonhide, Fasthealing, Fireball, FireBolt, Firestorm, flameCloak, Flames, FlameThrall, Incinerate, WallsOfFlames

Perks:Conjuration Novice to Master, Summoner 30 and 70, Atromancy, ElementalPotency, TwinSouls, Alteration Novice to Master, MageArmor 30,50,70, MagicResisitance 30,50,70, Stability, atronach, Regeneration, Recovery 30 and 50, Avoid Death, Restoration Novice to Master, Destruction Novice to Master, Impact, AugmentaedFlames, IntenseFlames, Lightfoot

She at Level 11 with Conjuration 31, so she should be able to summon it. I even gave her a book to learn it with the UFO mod, in game.I didn't change the spell cost.

I have deleted all save games, and started a new game also.

I don't know what I am doing wrong, maybe this thing is testing me or something!@!@@!

Is there are certain steps I should take, or I miss something?
Do certain mods stop it from working?
Please help me guys and gals.(If possible a step by step guide would be awesome)

Try same things on a completely New npc . see if it works. I have a freon one-shotter that works fine with those.

I would try it on a new NPC, and if that works, look at the differencses between the one you created and the companions mods.
I know that I had to start a new game to see some of the changes I made to Ungtherd the Unbroken, using Dova's angels as a starting point.
There was something in the savegame that just mad it really hard to see changes take effect.
I had the same issue with some of my other companion mods.
Try a new game, not a save.

Shalani, you are right about starting a new game.

X_X, it seems they only prefer to cast destruction, alteration, and restoration spells.

Is there a script to force them to cast the conjuration spells?

NPCs will probably not cast "Wall" spells, nor master-level spells, so delete those.

Try changing her spells to CloseWoundsLeftHand, ConjureFlameAtronachLeftHand, FastHealingLeftHand, FireBallRightHand, FireboltRightHand, FlameCloakLeftHand, and IncinerateRightHand (having the Flames spell will probably make her act like J'zargo in a fight, using Flames constantly).

The cast reduction perks aren't needed; NPCs have a different formula for determining casting cost. Perks with multiple ranks only need the highest-ranked one. I've also never seen an NPC dual-cast.

I've made NPCs who conjure correctly before; if you still need help, look at Brelyna Maryon, the most summon-heavy follower.

Npcs don't blend well (sometimes) with the player access'd spells - especially of higher rank. Use the lefthand/righthand versions instead.

Another smart move will prolly be that you'll make all lefthand spells conjuration, while all other offensive ones on the righthand. That way, they will surely use one hand for conjuration no matter what.

O_O, woot, thanks for the response, going to try it out.By the way, is there a way to get them to use the summons spells whenever they don't have a summon creature in battle?Like they start off summoning their creatures then they just use destruction, restoration, alteration spells with both hands, and when the summon creature is either destroy or timed expire in combat, they resummon them.

Basically that's how AI acts with summon spells. Example, they'll summon an Atronach when the following conditions are met: that there is still no summon, and that they are in combat stance.

In other words, it's a built in thing.

I think another great solution would be to make the NPC use a conjuration staff. Just make is unplayable, have 0 consumption of charges, and added to the NPC. Also increase the staff multiplier a bit in CombatStyle.

Thank ya'll very much for responding to this topic :touched:, but to just make sure.

Can I have a companion starting combat by casting the summon spell, then switch to using destruction, restroration, and alteration spells with both hands (not dual casting, just using both hands to shoot spells) until they need to recast the summon spell in case it died or time expire?

Is there a certain battle script or something for it? (I don't know much about scripting)

Also I can't make them use the high level spells when we get to higher levels, rather than the low level spells?

Lastly, the combat style and Class doesn't do anything for combat?

Class determines their skill level; combat style determines how they fight. You may give an NP as many high-level spells as you wish, but they won't cast them if their skill is too low. They prefer high-cost spells, but they'll settle for lower-tier if short on magicka.

Conceivably, you could script the follower to use a summon, but they seem to do this automatically (for example, Brelyna Maryon can conjure Flame and Frost atronachs; if her summon dies, she may cast it again, and if she's short on magicka, she'll use the Flame atronach).

If they just won't do it, perhaps the "Twin Souls" perk is disrupting things -- you don't seem to need it anyway, since the follower only uses one type of summon, and no NPC has it.
