I am getting DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_RESET again.

Post » Tue May 07, 2013 10:21 pm

Ok so I have been told this specific error is driver related and probably not hardware related. I reinstalled all of the newest drivers, removed them first with driver sweeper. It was working just fine for about an hour then I got the error again. I am using steam big picture mode on my second monitor(which is actually my TV connected via HDMI). The error actually says "Big Picture Mode had to close. What are some trouble shooting ideas? I will try to run it without BPM and without my second monitor. Also what could cause a GPU Driver corruption?

DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_RESET 0x887A0007

The device failed due to a badly formed command. This is a run-time issue; The application should destroy and recreate the device.

Its simply a bug in the program (Steam Big Picture). You can try different setup configurations (ie. use different monitors (a single monitor), resolutions, device drivers).

If I were to guess I'd say that BPM might have a bug related to being run on a second monitor. That would just be a guess, but lots of full-screen applications can get a little weird running on monitor other than the primary one.

I didn't see it happening until after one of the updates so that is probable. I have it set up to switch the primary to my tv when I launch BPM.

edit: Even without BPM I still get the same issues where I see pixelation the screen freezes then goes black then back into the game. Just no error message this time. It wont stop doing it unless I restart the game.

Have you tried a new copy of the game?

What? It happens in most of the games. Are you saying I should freshly install all of my games from steam?

Any ideas as to why the problem doesn't happen when I have fraps running? I wanted to try to record it but it doesn't happen while fraps is running in the background.

After much testing and consulting of friends I have deduced that one of the steam updates conficts with my GPU D3D driver as only steam games have problems, all other games run with no problems whatsoever. Perhaps something has changed recently with steams rendering files that my card doesn't agree with.

It could also have something to do with the control panel overlay that Steam can display in-game. A friend of mine used to have to "Disable Steam Community In-Game" or something like that in his Steam settings because the menu overlays caused his video drivers to be unstable.

Very strange. I'll check that out. All I know is they need to fix the problem fast or allow us to roll back to a past update.

Just another of a long list of reasons I stay far away from Steam. Hope you find a fix Cabius.

Right, because GFWL, Battle.NET, Punkbuster, and a zillion other services don't also cause issues with games... BPM is a pretty new thing and is likely to continue to have a bug here or there for a bit. Personally, I know quite a lot of people that use Steam regularly (and have for years) that are yet to see a single problem related to Steam. As software goes it's pretty damn stable.

In my friend's case it actually turned out to be a bug in the video driver rather than Steam. YMMV.

Exactly, I haven't had a single problem with steam until now. I love steam. I actually prefer to buy my games on steam rather than a disk.

I think it actually does have something to do with the overlay because when I press Shift+Tab to open then close it, it's like it resets something and I stop experiencing the bugs. After the latest update I am getting a glitch where the ground textures rise to about Geralt's waste. I had it before but it went away after one of the updates, opening the overlay also makes the ground level go back to normal.
