Getting feed up, I just want a WORKING game

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 4:51 am

Pre-loaded RAGE the night before it's release on Steam.

Installed the RAGE drivers first day for my Nvidia 8600 GeForce GT on my XP 32 bit machine.

I turned texture cache on small, vsync on, anisotropric filtering on low, GPU Transcode is off, and antialiasing is off.

I went ahead and made a rage cached file.

And the rageconfig.cfg file I made looks like this:

vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 4096
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly 4096
vt_pageimagesizeunique 4096
vt_pageimagesizevmtr 4096
vt_restart
vt_maxaniso 4
image_anisotropy 4
vt_maxPPF 64
fs_cachepath "C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXXXX\Local Settings\Application Data\id Software\rage"
cvaradd g_fov 20
fc_maxcachememoryMB 1024
ik_enablesmoothing 0
image_usecompression 0
jobs_numthreads 4
mem_phymemblocksizem 512

Now most of the game looks good, BUT when I go to do a race in wellspring I get this:

http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/576684312272779267/EEC6BDABABF5F67546FCCA6EE1EB41A3A1193C3C/

or

These are the cuprino races you get access to once you have one. I have been able to get into races just fine beforehand.

Quit out to menu, quit out of game fully, restarted races and tried to re-eneter and this keeps happening.

System specs:

Windows XP 32bit
3 GB RAM
AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core Processor 2.20 GHz
Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT

I'm really getting sick of all the hoops I have to jump through to get the game simply to work, I don't care about super high max graphics or constant 60 fps. I just want to be able to play my game.

Ok first I'm confused you have a 9800 gt at beginning of your post but a 8600 at the end.

First get rid of your config file users have reported that since the patch the config file has been causing weird issues and does no good anymore only harm.

My bad, I was thinking of my computer back home. The card in this machine is an 8600 GT.

I've shoved the config file in a separate folder and relocated it. Restarting Steam and trying it again.

Update this thread if removing your config files helps this rendering issue.

Removing the config files gets the races working.

Thing look worse, but it works.

Here's to hoping future patches help things.

Looks to me like you might have resources missing. Right click on RAGE in Steam -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Game Cache

EDIT: Actually, if removing your config file fixes this I doubt you're missing anything.
