Getting a new guitar, anyone have a preference?

I mean, Steinbergers are cool looking, but I think the main appeal about them is that they are mostly not made out of wood, and this one is... I'm not sure if I'd drop $1500 on it if it isn't meeting that requirement, though it may very well be a nice guitar. No judgement here about your Dragonforce signature guitar. Signature guitars are funny like that; the Korn signature Ibanez K7 is said to be a very good guitar, and I've recently looked at the Jim Adkins (Jimmy Eat World) signature guitar, which is a Fender Tele thinline with p90's and a set neck (!!!!!) and some really nice finishes. The most offensive signature guitars are the ones that have some sort of overbearing graphic of the artist's name or logo (like the Akerfeldt guitar...).

The thing I like about the ZT3 is the trem' system, you can transpose it 5 steps at any point without going out of tune.

And the logo on the Akerfeldt sig' is the only thing that stops me from buying it, the way it plays and the tone I've got out of it is superb. Not to mention it looks gorgeous (logo aside).

There's a lad in the year below me at uni' who has a PRS 22 (I think) and that was unbelievably good to play, well and truly out my price range though.

EDIT:

I like the Paul Allender sig' as well, but those bat inlays are vile.

EDIT2:

And that Nick Cantonese one as well...

Unfortunately the SE 24s leave me wanting.

Les Pauls are great. Period. Aside from their heaviness.

That's actually what keeps me from liking them. I have to be able to move around easily if I'm standing up and playing.

Hey guys, I'm looking for some help in making a decision. I am planning on buying a new electric guitar with my birthday money soon this year and am wondering if anyone with experience has a preference in guitar brand or model. I have not been playing for very long and have so far only been using Rocksmith as a learning tool, with help from my dad, who can play anything. I might get a teacher soon but right now I am happy just learning the basics with the game. I am not looking to spend over 600 dollars. I know that in the guitar world the two main companies are Fender and Gibson, I am not familiar with any others. I have been using my dad's old Telecaster, which I enjoy, but don't know if it is my favourite because I don't know what else is out there.

Has anyone got an opinion on certain models made by these two brands (or others), which ones are better than which ones - that sort of thing? Please don't just say the brand, I am also looking for a model. (not a specific year or anything, though.)

Telecasters are very good, but it all depends on what you want to play. I like to play tech death, so I got a 7 string Schecter Hellraiser.

So what do you like to listen to?

Don't go with Fender or Gibson. You aren't going to find anything under $600 that is any good from them.

Some good cheap brands: Dean (although meh), Ibanez (very few are good), Epiphone (probably your best choice, it is made by the same people as Gibson and a lot of the models are the same), and Agile (if you can trust my word and order online)

Stay away from Squier (Fender's cheap brand) and First Act (Wal Mart guitars)

Oh yeah, I forgot about the trans-trem deal. Those are cool with the whole chords bending in tune and what not. I looked at some of those signature guitars you mentioned. Bats? Terrible. I think the EMG's in the last one might have been even worse! Not really a big fan of those.

Get a bass instead :P Way funkier, and you'll never have trouble finding a band.
