im getting sick of this

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 7:23 am

before you reading this I would like to mention I didnt play any previous elder scrolls games, but I heared this game is really good so I decided to preorder skyrim
please do not flame me, im not trying to bash this game or making it look bad. just talking out of my own (short) experience and seeking help from veteran players of this series

so far after 6 hours of playing im only getting frustrated with this game.
im not totally clueless when it comes to RPG games, I've played and finished "the witcher 2" countless times on hard difficulty
but with this game everything just not seems right, the quests barely says anything beside the objectives so I dont understand anything with the plot yet or why im even doing these quests

the introduction to this game is very lacking in my opinion for someone who isnt familiar with the series, the game just throw you in and doesnt explain anything beside how to loot and how to hit
I have unused perks which I cant spend on specific talents and I couldnt find explanation within the game "why I cant spend those perks" or "when I will be able to spend them"
plus I have no idea which quests are the main plot and which are just side quests.

my mouse just not moving right, I tried changing the sensitivity but it's still moving weird, as a result I keep stealing stuff by mistake from NPCs at the town.
now, 3 hired thugs jumped on me at the first town and keep killing me, I cant run away because they keep chasing me wherever I go, I tried picking them off 1 by 1 but the longer I wait the more town folks joining the fight against me
and I end up fighting 6-8 enemies at once, by the time I kill someone 3 more join the fight and I get overwhelmed

does this mean I have to drop this character and start over?... I cant get pass this
this is so frustrating I wish the game would give some indication of what I need to do

Its understandable because you haven't played any of the other games before xD

Oblivion is the type of game where you can just go off on your own and do whatever you want.

In this game, every little thing matters in a quest, if your looking at the broad aspect of it, your not going to be able to figure things out.

Lol, it may seem annoying to you, but believe me, every oblivion player has Accidentally stolen something :D were all little thieves.

Id say, start over, and read everything thoroughly.

Buy the last oblivion game, you may understand how to play Skyrim better after doing so :) Some things you just need explore to understand them .

You cant get certain perks unless your skill within that tree meets the requirements , they are all listed in the specific perk tree of whatever your trying to level up , as for the thugs attacking you , i'm not quite sure that is happening , although you may be in an area to difficult for your level at this moment in time.I have no ideas about your mouse problem as i've never played on PC , Sorry.

Go into the game settings and adjust the difficulty. By default it's set to the highest level. Adjust it until you feel it's suitable to your skill level.

Remember also that you can't just attack people wildly - if you're using a shield for example, there's a rhythm to it: dodge or block their light attacks and shield bash their power attacks and then hit them with the sharp end.

Well the best test type character to get used to most RPG is usually a melee type. The secret is to go it very slow and get all the loot you can and fight very low enemies until you figure out how to play the game. Its encouraging that they made this game more difficult. Easy is bad

if you know english you should understand the quests. plus there is a compass that shows you where is your objective and it is very accurate. your doing these quests to level up, get stuff and money and become stronger. this is a good way to be good for the main quest eventually. in the intorduction, you learn how to play the game. that's why there is intorduction. if you mean you don't understand the plot, then you just have to listen to what the NPC's say. they explain everything. if you can't use perks on specific skills, then it means your level in this skill is not high enough and you need to practice more in it. you can know the levels required in the perk tree. if you bring up your journal, you should know which quests are main and which are not. it should divide it. about your mouse, i think it's the problem. maybe it's not working well or something. about the thugs i don't know. hope i helped!

Have a look at the videos in this review and a lot of things about the game and how you do things, how inventory works, how you start quests will start to make sence.

It is a lot more open ended than the WItcher 2, lets just say its no Bioware game. It is open ended. You could follow the MQ and you'll get a more linear game. But in general the quests are episodic rather than linear

I believe those thugs and town folks trying to kill me because of the thefts I've been doing
they said something like: "we'll teach you not to take things that dont belong to you.."
I had no problem killing everything I've encountered so far until those thugs have arrived, it's not that I've traveled to "too difficult zone"
these guys jumped at me right at the middle of the town after I turned the quest where I had to fetch the golden claw for that vendor at the first town
I'll try lowering the difficulty...

Hahaha, this is just great :D It totally reminds me of my first time playing Morrowind :D Dude, you are doing everything right, these games are MEANT to be "We just throw you into the World, you have to understand everything on your own, PAL *boot to the head*" Believe me, once you mastered all the difficulties it will be much more rewarding as if everything was clearly understandable from the beginning. You will think back "Man, this was hard, but nonetheless, i mastered it! [censored] yeah!" So just stick to it, and remember, losing is fun!

Welcome to TES game you always start clueless and free to do what you want. With time main plot will get clearer, talk to people, in the end you ll won t be able to stand railed games much more.
TES games a called sandbox because of the freedom they offer, you do what you wan t and not what your corridor directed to.

the introduction to this game is very lacking in my opinion for someone who isnt familiar with the series, the game just throw you in and doesnt explain anything beside how to loot and how to hit

Perks are usually sequencial, you need to spend a closest perk (shiny point) to be able to spend on a farter perk that must be branched to the nearest you choosed previouly. UI is awfull on perk navigation and can really lead to confusion.

Noted and agree on the mouse, i had to change my mouse resolution to fix this problem a bit.
On the fight i would counsel reload a previous save and not getting near this town for some time.
