Ghost Blade

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:41 am

I tried putting Ghost Blade in a weapon rack, but it wouldn't do it. Just fell on the floor. I think I've seen that before. So after that I put it in a display case. But now every time I return home I find it moving around. First time it was floating in the air to the side of the display case. Next time it was floating near my enchanting table. Third time it was floating between the railing and the stairs so that I couldn't get to the enchanting table from that side of the house. Finally, I gave up and just put it back in my inventory.

What is the deal with this item? Does it behave like that elsewhere? I am sure I have put it on a weapon plaque before with no problem. By way of contrast, I put the DG rune hammer in a display case and it stays there just fine.

Weapon racks seem to work only in a correct manner with weapons like swords, axes and bigger.

In my experience if you place a dagger or any fancy weapon in a weapon rack, chances are it will dissapear or drop somewhere when you return to your house.

For example, The dagger I got from the Dark Brotherhood, I placed it on a weapon rack, when I returned home, it had dissapeared.

I have experienced something similar when I tried to place the Deadric Ebony Blade on a weapon rack and it flew across the room in my Falkreth Mansion. Also when I tried placeing it in a display case and left and came back it was in the stairwell floating.

I have managed to cage that ebony blade twice in a display case, but it was put in manually both times, and put in on an angle since it will not fit the usual way. It moves around a bit, but for the two characters who have it, has never escaped.

I would laugh more if it screamed 'RELEASE ME!!' in a demonic voice everytime you walked by.

It would not surprise me if it did, thing seems to be alive the way it struggles to get out of those display cases. Braggen's has been caged for most of the year and still will not settle. Aussie chose one of the new houses for hers, she will shortly be trying it out with the little journal that came with it, which might lead to unusual results.

Edit
Putting the journal with the Ebony Blade allowed it to partially escape, it ended up sticking out of the case. The journal just sits next to the case now.

The ghost blade has a known bug. If you do manage to get it onto a weapon rack, you my come home and find it has disappeared. I tried it anyway, and had to reload to get it back. I stuck it in a chest and there it stays. Don't know if it will be that way for all, but like I said, it's a known bug.

I stuck the Ebony Blade on a weapon plaque on the wall after it refused to go in one of the racks. Seems to be just fine so far.

Hmm. Seems to be doing the same thing as Ghost Blade. I wonder what it is about those guys? Harkons sword has been giving me problems too. It will go in a weapon rack, but then when I came back, it was hovering over the slot, not in it. When I put it in the same display case as the Rune Hammer, when I came back it had fallen on the floor. (Maybe it resented being displayed alongside a DG weapon?)

I had Harkon's sword on a weapon plaque for ages and it behaved, I put it in a display case with Bolar's Oathblade and it fell through and would no longer display right on a weapon plaque or a rack. Mind you it took a while to fall through so by the time it did I had to go back a fair way to restore it. Aussie ended up putting both blades in weapon racks in one of the entryways. A pity because they really looked nice in the display case. The only problem with the Oarthblade in the rack is the activate message sometimes comes up when you look at it, you have to look above the sword if you want it back.

Ghostblade used to disappear in Breezehome, so obviously it's improved to just mysterious movements....

I've encountered these sorts of problems as well.

Don't really understand why they're so difficult to fix.

I usually put the Ghost blade on a table. Once when I returned, it had moved six feet and was sticking through a wall and visible on the other side.
Ebony blade and the bow Zephyr also seem to have a problem with being constrained.

Well, now Volendrung is giving me problems. I put it in a display case and it has been moving around every time I come home. It displayed fine in Hjerm. But in that case I used the activate method for placing it rather than manually placing it.

I'll field this one...

They are difficult to fix because they just don't care.

I've had a few gripes in relation to Hearthfire, and we are now seeing glitch compounding on glitch, right back from the original game release, through Dawnguard and now Hearthfire, and there is still no serious information coming out from Beth, nor apparently, any serious attempt to rectify what seem to be a mass of problems.

It may appear harsh of me to say it, but Beth has never had a credible reputation when it comes to game stability or problem fixing, and that, I would suggest, is because they don't focus enough on the areas of troubleshooting or quality control. That is indicative of poor management, from the top down. This isn't an unsupported allegation, I could go back through hundreds of threads over a range of games and highlight problems dating back years that have never been resolved, never had an explanation provided for, etc etc.

I'll be fair, Beth makes good games...but they also produce cr*p programming in the same product. It's a crying shame they can't get their act together.

I guess the lesson here is: place an item, exit the cell, return, and find out if the item in question behaved strangely. If it did, reload from before you place it.

This is similar to building the house: save, build, examine, reload or save and build next item.

Since Hearthfire my ghostblade dissapears if I remove it from my inventory at all, really annoying since I was going to display it in the armoury, also I put keening in the bedroom small display case and it always moved about, eventually it vanished altogether and I cant get it back, same thing with a book I placed on one of the tables, very annoying.

As far as I am aware Ghost Blade and Ebony Blade are both supposed to near impossble to store on a rack. Ghost Blade, obviously because its a spectral blade and only the player can wield it due to his magical nature of the dovakiin. Its not supposed to be placed on a rack, its a ghost, it passes through stuff.

Ebony has a mind of its own, litteraly. IIRC the ingame literature makes note of strange things happening with the blade, and its one of the reasons its locked away. The blade itself choses to be "awkward" becuase its not been fed souls.
